Looks to be a rough night!

Remember, a tornado at night is VERY dangerous since you cannot see it. If you hear a roar and/or seem to see continous lightning in one place, no matter how "cool" it looks ;) take cover immediately!

Cheers!

If you hear sirens going off it means the tornado has been spotted in your county.
Seek shelter immediately. Don't stop to shut anything off or run to the window for a look see.
I live abt 130 miles ENE of Praetor and that complex is just starting to move through here now. Seems to have lost a little of it's punch. I haven't been called out to chase anything yet.

Ack, hope you're OK Praetor.

I just went through the same thing last night. Tornado sirens were going off for at least an hour. Woke up today to find trees and brances down all over the place. The local lumber yard and bowling alley was hit by a tornado supposedly. Luckily there were no injuries.

BTW, I'm in southwest Minnesota.

Try living in central Oklahoma. You get pretty used to power loss due to wind and lightning. What is that? My power was off for 20min this morning due to 75mph wind? Yep! ;( Atleast were getting rain this summer, we got a good 1/2" today. For the last four summers, we went for 2-3 months without a drop of rain.

One of my friends had a worse time than I. As a matter of fact, the rest of my city had a worse time of it. She was up all night with her daughter, listening to the heavy rains and hail. She even lost power for a time, she said. Across town, we had mini-tornados picking up full semi-trucks and throwing them across the street, turning them upside down...

And me? As soon as I posted initially, I shut down the computer, disconnected it from the network and hunted through the rest of the house for the other computers still plugged in. A guy has to have is priorities. :)

Some people though, were nowhere near as lucky. And to them, I apologize for my cavalier attitude. One family lost their entire house. They literally watched a tornado rip the house from its foundation and throw it away. While they were hiding in their basement. I just pray that I never have to experience that myself.

Among other things Praetor.

There are about a dozen or so of us in the local ham radio club that do the NWS certification every year. We have a Ham stationed at the weather service office down in Des Moines that will call a weather net if the weather guessers deem neccesary.

get a UPS so you don't have to turn your computer off in thunderstorms. I never turn this computer off. Hell, if we get a tornado warning or something, I'm all over it watching the weather on the TV card and online. Its quite handy really.

A UPS is only good for power outages.

It will not stop a direct ligtning hit or a good sized induced surge on the power/telco lines.
As they say, there are those who have been hit and there are those who will be hit.

I was at work today at WALMART and this same storm cell struck us. We had a mini tornado forming in our parking lot but then it stopped luckily. There were funnel clouds that started to have some good rotation in them.

It was kind of funny in a way to see shopping carts going and flying into people who were driving around the parking lot.
