really, i just need one maybe two for the computer room for the couple of servers and the main rig, and one for the htpc setup in my bedroom...everything upstairs doesn't really need constant power

no you just need some big ones.

I have an 800va and a 500va for my 3computers and networking equip. I can usually get about 30min. of uptime (only found that out by unplugging them from the wall, the power's never gone off here for more than 10min. at a time in the last 4 years)
