Was there punctuation involved? In Walmart and couldn't really tell. F-ing Walmart.

Pretty freaking fast, regardless.

iPhone typing can be done very quickly due to the multitouch keyboard. We still lack this on Android =[

Android keyboards do have multitouch - just not as advanced as the iPhone's. Its improving with each iteration, at least. Originally there was no on screen keyboard, back in the days when it was G1 or nothing.

I saw that video on gizmodo yesterday, pretty crazy.

Do they have multitouch? Not from what I've seen. If you press a letter like A and then while holding it, go press K, what happens? Doesn't register A then K properly. The iPhone does it flawlessly. Even though the HTC keyboard is a significant upgrade to the stock keyboard, pressing A then K will give you something in the middle of the two keys.

I feel like I have a lot more typos on Android than on my old iPod.

Or I guess I can step up to Smart Keyboard and pay $$$ which claims to have multi touch.

It is in there...its just not really very advanced. If you very slightly double-press like that on the Android keyboard, it will still register properly. It just doesn't always work, and it really only supports a quick multi-tap on the keyboard.

Hopefully the next iteration - 'Froyo' I believe its called - will improve more here. Then again, Droid is still waiting for 2.1, so I wouldn't hold my breath on Froyo actually hitting carriers soon.

SHIT that's bad ass, I'm quick but not even close to that quick. But I can still out type 99% of physical keyboard smartphone people I know. At first I didn't like it, then I learned to sort of like it. Now it's bar none my favorite smartphone keyboard.

Yea the ability to type without fully looking at the screen is sorely missed with on screen keyboards. Typing while walking down the street, for instance, will always be the best on a horizontal physical keyboard like a Blackberry or Palm.

Although, interestingly enough, I can type (somewhat) with Swype without looking at the screen. It lets you be sloppy. Problem is, if you aren't paying attention and are a little off, it comes out absolutely nothing like expected haha

Best I can do is a slow but steady pace on my hardware keyboard. I just got Swype today and it's pretty good too, surprisingly fast and accurate for composing messages. But Swype is best used one-handed in portrait mode. With the stock Android on-screen keyboard, the portrait one is almost totally unusable for me and only the landscape orientation makes it even semi-useful.
