I'm trying to setup my dish network remote controller to control my TV, like volume, and power off and on. It can only control the satellite as of now.

The controller manual came with a bunch of codes you're supposed to use to make it compatible, but the codes don't work...infact, they've never worked for as long as i can remember. Do these code things piss anyone else off?

Anyways, maybe someone can help :p - How can i setup my dish remote to control my TV as well. I had it like this before with my old dish network controller, which broke...it was like $35 for this new one (dish network bites by the way).

Well, they never work for me, and I have a regular ole' philips magnavox TV, the codes should be right. I have another controller than can control the TV, but it's kinda dumb having 2 controllers. Especially when this remote costs $35...seems like it should be able to control everything :p

There was thread earlier about ecost having some $9 sony learning remotes. Really the learning ones are the only way to go.

I set up a dish remote to work with my grandpa's TV + VCR last night. It took a little bit of trial-and-error to get the right code, but once I figured it out, it worked like a charm.

I have the same problem... I managed to find a code where I can use down-arrow for tv power, but that's about all that works. It would be nice if these things were standardized so that you could make anything work.

Has anyone else had trouble getting their dish network remote to work with their TV? I talked to some dumb CSR and he couldn't tell me anything i didn't know, besides that they wouldn't refund me for it (dish network sucks by the way).

why do people have trouble with these codes? i never have trouble with them, partially due to the fact that i'm not completely inept with primitive technology like remote controls.

I never seem to have trouble with it, either... I have the same Harman/Kardon remote that Thegonagle has. It is programmed to work everything I have with no problems.

buy the free after rebate from OfficeMax, they work for me.

or buy the programmable one, they also work. i have one and it works really well but i don't like to use it since it's so bulky (remote producer 8)

edit: when i said programmable i mean the one with JP1

It's could be a lot of laziness on my part, but I couldn't get my HK remote to do much of anything with my newer stuff. I admit that I've only made a few half-hearted attempts. But OTOH, that remote came with an AVR310 HT Receiver which is probably about five model years old now. I just deal, because I don't care all that much. One day, I get pissed enough to find a good universal, but until then, I just say, whatever. . .
