They run in the family but luckily I don't usually get very many. Usually 1 or 2 at a time and not that often. You know what works though? You aren't going to like this but it works. SALT. Yes it will hurt like a motherfucker but if you pour some salt on these fuckers it helps them heal faster. I could be wrong but that has been my experience.

Salt, interesting. It reminds me of something that i have to lookup.
It reminds me of how long ago, when fish was caught, it was kept in salt to prevent it from decaying. It was and still is used. It is also used on meat to prevent it from decaying. Spices and salt are often use to preserve meat in warm countries. For as far as i have come to understand, salt performs some dehydration action on the tissue and/or the bacteria in the tissue. This might slowdown the bacteria considerably. This might also be why it helped you.

Many people do not realize this, but on average, every family carries not only their own family genes, but families also each carry their own mixture/blend of micro life. Fungi, bacteria, viruses and other micro-organisms.
It is a theory, but some assumed genetic diseases might just not be that genetically inheritable after all. The family related diseases are part of the micro-organism of that family. At least that is the theory. ^_^

Sure, nobody knows what it is but it is not a virus, right? It is contagious. It destroys cells, it creates open sores. It supposedly lives in the neural center where the brain stem meets with the spine. It can morph into the shingles later in life when a person gets older.

It sure acts like a virus. It is easier to think of it as a virus because that way it makes sense.
canker sores ARE NOT due to what you are describing, which is the HERPES virus!

canker sores ARE NOT contagious.

i have said this before on this board, but OP, try using a toothpaste without SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate) in it. I believe Rembrandt and Toms of Maine make SLS free toothpastes. SLS has been known to cause outbreaks of aphthous ulcers, aka canker sores, in people who are sensitive to it.

A canker sore is essentially a septic infection from a small cut or abrasion in your mouth. Brush your teeth 3-4 times a day and rise with Listerine (or that new Crest Pro-Health mouthwash doesn't burn). Peroxide works well too, but it tastes terrible.

The idea is keep your mouth as clean as possible for the next couple of days and the sores will go away quickly. I used to get them a lot when I was younger and this always worked.

I wonder what the health state is from people who have canker sores a lot.
I never heard of this before. Neither have i ever experienced this.

Is it a common occurrence to have canker sores in the family ?
Do you people still have your tonsils or not ?
Do you people have a problem with your saliva or the micro organism in your mouth ? Do you consume certain products that suppress your immune systems ?
Do you use certain medication ? Do you eat unhealthy, low in vitamins, minerals and protein ? Do you eat a lot of meat from what it is known that it contains large amount of antibiotics ?

I am really curious.

I mean, because of my sharp teeth, i by accident bite into my tongue or the inner side of my cheeks quite often. To a bleeding and painful extent. Yet my wounds in my mouth heal within 24 hours. I assume this is normal since the healthy saliva is a natural disinfectant, and healthy micro-organisms as first defense help out too.

If you're in that much pain, go to the doc. They'll give you a script for Valtrex...teh herp drug.

It was an interesting experience getting that prescription filled, let me tell you. I had them so bad once that I couldn't even eat and it was a challenge to swallow. Fortunately I haven't had one for a couple years now.

Rembrandt's product is called "Rembrandt Canker Sore". I bought it (from Amazon; couldn't find it at a local brick and mortar) on the recommendation of a friend that frequently gets them, and it did seem to help.

I have also found that just drinking a lot of water, and occasionally gently swishing it over the sore, seems to help keep pain under control and somewhat speed up healing. I assume it's basically just keeping the area free of debris that could further irritate the sore.

I get them usually only when i get a cut in my mouth from biting my cheek or lip. They are extremely painful when at there peak.

They are NOT contagious from everything ive read and been told.

I had it like you when I had Mono. I imagine it was due to my weak immune system at the time. I had up to 11 at once. I couldn't eat and ended up losing 30 pounds in 3 months (6'1, 185-155). I get them every once in a while now, but usually only 1, if I happen to bite the inside of my mouth or something.

And they aren't herpes. I've been tested for herpes before I had mono, when I had it, and since. I am negative for both types.

Maybe hydrogen peroxide can help. It seems to be an alarm signal for the immune system to mobilize defenses.

Some people i know, who had their wisdom teeth removed had to use hydrogen peroxide to squirt into the wounds after the wounds became infected.

I believe mononucleosis is caused by a herpes virus. You had mono so you are not negative for herpes, and will have that virus for the rest of your life.

You can actually get a herpes virus outbreak in your mouth. Are you sure that isn't what you had?

Well they tested me and gave me valtrex thinking that's what I had. But I test negative and never get cold sores. And like I said, i've tested since and still test negative. Unless I have some stealth version that doesn't give me cold sores and doesn't turn up on tests. In which case, who cares.

Mono is caused by the Epstein-Barr virus, which is a type of herpes, but it is not the same as the Herpes Simplex Virus type I or II. I imagine that tests for antibodies to the herpes viruses are not the same as tests for mono.

So, yes, in a sense you have *a* herpes virus, but you don't have "the herp."

Go get some lysine and load up on them, 1500-2000mg a day. You'll definitely feel a difference over night and will be gone in 2-3 days.

I use to get huge ones where I could barely talk or eat cause it hurts so bad.

My dentist recommended avoiding acidy foods (coffee, strawberries, etc.) when you have one, and to try chewing Tums or something else that neutralized acid once in a while.

Sea salt is a much better alternative to table salt, with the same effects. It's more mild and less 'stingy'. It is really good for sore throats and situations like yours. ( A sea salt rinse or 'bath' is good for a lot of wounds, scrapes, etc. ) You might give it a try. Mouth sores, whatever the cause, are a pain because of the way it affects eating/drinking. Be sure to stay away from acidic foods and drink lots of water to help keep the mouth clean.

Once in High School a bully punched me dead in the lips and I had canker sore-type cuts wherever I had teeth.

I laugh at your palty 5.
