So?

I'll never understand the food fear activists. For them just about any increased production through science is "bad." They are the unibombers of the activist world.

No way. I can't stand the idea that somewhere else in the world, someone is eating the exact same hamburger I'm eating.

So eventually all the cows will be cloned from the same cow, then some disease comes along and cows become extinct.

There will still be different breeds due to geography and climate

Is anyone controlling this whole cloning thing? What's stopping some mad scientist from practicing cloning on humans?

You don't think there are sanctions and regulations against cloning?

all cows are potentially vulnerable to the same diseases....
is there something I am missing? is there a magical DNA link between cloned creatures that I am unaware of?
one clone gets sick, and they all immediately fall ill to the same disease at the same exact time?
sounds like a creepy, sci-fi dystopia novel. ;)

decreased diversity of immune genes. Higher diversity leads to increased chances that some individual(s) will be resistant to a hypothetical killer pathogen.

All cows are already very closely related. Simply cloning them isn't going to put them into any worse of a situation.

How is it all cows are already closely related? They're nearly as diverse as us.

How closely related is "very?" More to the point, how diverse are their HLA alleles? got a cite? Cloning will make their HLA alleles identical.

I've no objection to cloning cows, btw.

I was just thinking that cows would turn out like bananas.
