:(

Looks like I'm going to have to move the home office. The basement in the house we rent is starting to let water in.

Anyone know what the landlord should do in this instance? I'm pretty sure this is because of a structural problem in the basement (unsealed foundation), not due to groundwater levels, as it's only been raining hard for about 12 hours or so, and no one else in our neighborhood is having flooding yet. How hard should it be to get her (our landlord) to take care of this?

tell the landlord to invest in a sump pump.

we had a problem in one of the houses we lived in, that there was an underground river that would occasionally flood our basement (i dont remember why, so long ago)

so we ended up with a sump pump and a 3 foot hole in the floor. we lost lots of tennis balls down that hole. to this day, i dont have a clue where they went.

Just went to Home Depot and got some sealant, will dry up the area, seal it, then get some waterproofing. It looks like a gutter is draining right by where the leak is happening. :p

We've called our landlord and told her about the leak, and will try to give it a temporary fix for now. :p

Damnit, it's happening again. Landlord promised to fix it last time but didn't. :|

Get a company to come out and open up the drains... I had a bush that grew into one of our drains, so the water would just back up and collect against the foundation ofthe house. Made for a damp corner in the basement. Once I removed the bush, all was better.

Dayum.

We have a "landlord" who's more like an "i own this house and am gonna charge you all this money each month and not do any maintainance work at all" person

Yup. She's really nice, as a person, but kinda sucks as a landlord. It probably doesn't help that this is the only place she rents out. :p

It's pouring here (all the streets are flooding, again) [the first post was on October 20th, when we got a little over 5 inches of rain], and I'm just hoping I can get a hold of her and let her know. No luck at work or at home so far. :|

It sucks, because this house is in a great location, but the house isn't really worth sticking around for anymore. We know all our neighbors and do house get-togethers, dinners, stuff like that, so it will suck to leave, but we may have to if our landlord can't fix a few of these things.
