So i'm looking into buying a new graphics card. I look at cards on pricewatch in my price range, move to google and look for benchmarks with that card(lets say the x700 Pro)
and what do i get but sites benchmarking all the new cards together with the x700Pro. Why do i need to see all the new cards together? If i'm upgrading from a previous generation card like a 9600/9700 then i want to see it compared with those cards. Look at this one from Tom's

Hey i love Tom's Hardware but this bench is missing something. The fact is that most people looking for benchmarks need to see comparisons with previous generation hardware, that is, hardware that they are currently running. I don't give a shat how an x700pro runs compared to a x800, i care how it runs compared to my last generation 9700pro. If i already i own an X700 it means i've already studied this generations hardware and made a purchase. I know that Tom's and all the other great sites do expanded benchmarks every once in a while but they are in serious need of expanding these benchmarks on a much more regular basis in order to properly inform buyers.
I've done tons of research. Really i'm surprised people don't discuss this more. Sure you can run your own benchmarks but obviously my machine is not going to be exactly the same as anything i find from Anandtech or toms benches. What they need to do is keep their test rigs longer so that each machine can have 2 or even 3 generations of cards tested on it. The fact that ati and nvidia are now more than ever putting out many brand new cards that are inferior in every way to the last generation of cards in order to confuse the uneducated public make these points even more crucial. How frustrating.
