Damn, that picture hits hard.

I'm not sure I could marry the girl if I were the Marine. That's a tough position to put someone else in. I wouldn't want her to feel obligated to hold up the deal, if I were a walking freak show. Looks aren't everything, but they're something, and a lifetime is a long time to spend married to someone who's disturbing to look at.

"Despite his wounds, he and his childhood sweetheart married in the face of what could be major problems in the future"

Dirty pool Ron Steinman, dirty pool.

Not that this is old as fuck or anything.

Today is their fifth wedding anniversary.

And soldiers still get maimed/disfigured in wars around the globe. And war still wrecks marriages. My dad told me of soldiers coming back at the end of WWII after having fought Axis forces for 6 years and finding their wife with 2-3+ extra kids they hadn't fathered.

If I was scarred severely I would immediately ask for a divorce if married, and if engaged, I would immediately pull the engagement.

That would be by FAR the easiest thing for everyone. Your brain is still there even if your old face isn't, I would be much happier independent.

Poor motherfucker, that sucks man.

I said it in the last thread about this couple. I can't believe that guy can get a nice looking chick like that, and I can't even bag an ugly chick.

Fuck this life of mines.

A little over a year had passed. In January, they got divorced, I tell them. They react with shock and disbelief. What happened? There is more than curiosity in their voice, there is disappointment too. As though it’s personal.

As though they had been promised a happy ending and they were ripped off. It turns out love doesn’t conquer all. It’s a myth.

It is a sad story, but there are many more in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the US due to the nature of the aggressive policies.

Agreed, but it's hard to speculate. He was likely in a fragile state of mind and this was a way of coping. Doomed from the start though, sadly.

Gross. How could you marry that thing? Makes me want to puke.

He's pretty ugly too.

That 'thing' is more man that you basement nerd could ever hope to be.

He goes out and fights for your country, comes home wounded and gets called 'that thing' from you. Jesus.

Dude, you aren't too bright are you? Your parents have any kids that survived?

wtf you talking about

He was pointing out how callous you are and how disrespectful you were to an American hero, an individual who is more of a man than 99% of people will ever even dream of being.

Having said that, I'd give their marriage a scant few months before she starts cheating on him. 🙁
