Ok. I'm just b!tching, I admit.

I upgraded my Cold Fusion Server from 4.5 to 5.0. I just contacted Macromedia to make sure everything was clear on my Version 4.5 (ie, never been registered, etc.....) so that I could sell the version I'm no longer using.

"Sorry sir. If you sell the version you are using, you violate the license agreement for your upgrade. You cannot sell this software."

Man, that pisses me off. Why upgrade if you have to keep the dust on the old one? Seems like you could do just as good by selling the old one, and buying the full version.

Of couse they don't tell you this until you've already bought the upgrade, & it's been more than 30 days so you can't return it.

Uh, sorry, but if you upgrade a product for a lower price than the full version, it ought to be clear that you can't simply sell the base software afterwards. That's why it's called an upgrade.

And you probably accepted (ie clicked away) the license agreement you now did not know about anymore, bad luck.

COmmon sense Wise, I agree.

I'm just complaining b/c I wish it was something that was DIRECTLY STATED when you go to purchase the UPGRADE.

Cold Fusion 4.5 Pro---$800
Cold Fusion 5.0 Upgrade---$699

By purchasing the upgrade, you are legally bound to keep your license of the previous base version you have.

Now, the one point I'd like to add, is that I've bought Adobe 4.0, 5.0, 5.5 and 6.0. I've bought upgrade versions for 5.0,5.5, and 6.0. I've had no problem selling 5.0 and 5.5 upgrade versions. That does make logical sense, so I guess in a way, when Cold Fusion 5.5 or 6 comes out, I'll be able to sell 5.0.

Anyway. Just wanted to whine a little, cuz I hate seeing that $800 software just sitting aroudn doing nothing.

I've wondered about this because I've got Partition Magic 3, 4, 5 & 6 sitting around because they were all upgrades after v.4.

With Adobe Photoshop 2.5 (came on FOUR FLOPPIES!), I got my serial number which I've used thru PS6. With PS4, I just needed to enter the number, but with PS5.5, it either needed a previous version installed or proof of media (insert CD or #1 floppy - like when installed on a fresh drive), thus you couldn't sell the old version. PS6 went back to just requiring a number. Weird.
