Damn RAM

Why is the "Damn RAM" so expensive right now?

I mean, what caused this price increase and why?
When are the prices expected to return to normal or at least start going down again?

Greed, and Xmas. RAM prices soar every year, late in the year. They always start falling on Dec. 26th, and hit their lowest between March and May.

Maybe a little price-fixing? Read the article about the RAM Execs getting indicted for just that?

It's not uncommon for the buying public to get the shaft when certain factors happen.

I've noticed that most RAM prices actually doubled. Well get what you need and wait for prices to drop.

When the buying frenzy is over, maybe.....

I guess I'll have to wait until next year to upgrade my RAM then. Damn...RAM....lol.
I need to put 2GB in my box and resell the 1GB that I have.

Here, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3

From that link:
"Supposedly, Intel has preliminarily announced that they expect to be able to offer support for it near the end of 2007."

That is quite a bit longer than i'm willing to wait to have 2GB of RAM.
Also, the article says nothing about pricing obviously.

Not that you can expect accurate pricing for a product that is a year away anyway.

I vote for a "RAM is expensive right now, deal with it!" sticky for GH so we don't have to discuss it constantly. Though for some reason I always find myself posting in these damn RAM threads 😕 I must be a masochist.

This has been covered so many times I really believe the mods should sticky one thread with explanations by whomevers. Anyway, the reason why ram prices have skyrocketed is because of supply and demand. It always happens every year. I remember when SDRAM was the craze and how cheap it was to buy 512MB and then out of the blue it went up to several hundred again for that much. It occurrs every year and will probably continue to do so in the future.
