This morning I bought 2 round trips from RDU to MSY through airtran and plunked down $400 for them, thinking wow, this is one of the cheaper flights this year I have booked for New Orleans.

Then I get this email for Northwest. I've never flown with them but dammit, when I looked up the flights I could do the same trip for $290. The catch was that I had to leave Raleigh and New Orleans at 6AM.

Note: I looked at the flights again for NW and it seems they booked all the offpeak hours and now the flights are more expensive. But still, when you click on the box to do a -/+ 3 day look at all flights you can see some deals still left.

Even with my booked flight, the airways are getting cheaper to fly again but you still have to look out for some gotchas like being charged for a second piece of luggage.

Actually, I did plan ahead as far back as early October. Back then the flights were $150-$250 more. I was afraid to look this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised.

Well...you cannot plan too much ahead....prices will usually start high....then it kind of dips, then goes back up. When you get closer to the day, the prices at JetBlue change faster and faster.
