damn popup hell

Started getting popups a couple of weeks ago. I can't figure out how to stop them. I've got the google toolbar which has been working flawlessly until now.

I've ran ad-aware, hijackthis, and regclean and nothing has worked. Anyone know of any other programs or anything to look for in windows to stop this crap? TIA

Did you update adaware first? Try running Spybot, sometimes it catches some things that adaware does not and vice versa. Also, what kind of popups are they? IE? Do they appear to be any one company in particular? More details please...

Panic Ware got a free pop-up stopper that works very well. Toward the bottom of the page. Just uncheck the sound package if you don't want it. Free Pop-up Stopper

thanks guys....I just ran spybot and it seems to have taken care of it so far. I had forgotten about spybot before reading the other post. thanks again.

Yes, adaware is updated. As for the kind of popups, they seem to be random companies. Yes, using ie and it doesn't seem to happen on any particular site, just random sites. BUt, i think it's taken care of now. ran spybot and it seems to be gone for now.

If your running XP then the latestSP2 update stops all pop ups, its great.

If it comes back, check your task manager for any strange looking processes.
