I was at S&S today and I saw a Chocolate Lab in a hot car. (Was 80F today and the window was open) It looked like a nice dog so I tried to let it sniff me so I could pet it and the fucker bites me. I am an animal lover (I have a Cat named Sagwa) but I now lost respect for all animal and human kind. Probably the owners fault for training the dog that way, Yes I am a idiot for touching a dog I did not know cause I thought Labs were usually nice dogs

Here is a picture of my cat Sagwa

I wouldn't blame it on the owner, it was probably the dog's disposition.

Umm I'm sure the owner didn't train their dog to bite but it's the owners lack of training all together that it bit. Don't blame the dog for doing what they do. Blame the owner for lack or responsibility.

Also why would you go upto random dogs and let them sniff you? You don't know what the dog would do so this is your own fault.

First question...what are you doing on site?

Next question...why would you mess with a dog in someone's car?

Many dogs get protective as hell of the vehicle they're in. It's THEIR turf...never touch a dog in a car, even if it has its head out and is wagging its tail.

IMO, you deserved to get bit for your stupidity.

Well don't blame tha animal, blame the owner for not training it properly. Any dog can be dangerous. Hell Chihuahua's bite more than pitbulls.

Why do you think the dog wasn't trained properly?

The dog was protecting its property...exactly what it should have done.

All your fault. The dog was just protecting his property. You should find the owner and offer your apologies for approaching his animal without permission.

That is very very strange. Labs are the most friendly of any breed of dog. They are the #1 dog recommended for using in public because of this.

Labradors have a reputation as a very mellow breed and an excellent family dog (including a good reputation with children of all ages and other animals)

Labradors are an intelligent breed with high work ethic and generally good temperaments - in one trial, 91.4% of Labradors who were tested passed the American Temperament Test. Common working roles for Labradors include: hunting, tracking and detection, disabled-assistance, carting, and therapy work. Approximately 60-70% of all guide dogs in the United States are Labradors; other common breeds are Golden Retrievers and German Shepherd Dogs.

I'll admit I am biased:

It's simple training.

And it sounds to me like it was trained properly. Do NOT reach into anyone elses car...if you'd have done that with my FiL's akita...you'd have lost an arm. She was VERY protective. You could lay your hand on the window sill...but as soon as your hand went inside the truck...CHOMP!
She was VERY well trained.

1. It depends on the dog and its personality. If you think it is "simple training" across the board for all dogs you don't know much about training.

2. What is wrong about a dog protecting it or its ownere property? He stuck his hand in the car!

The dog might have been trained to protect the car.

I knew of a Bouvier that could be told to protect any object the owner indicated and even though it looked like the dog was barely paying attention, the dog would jump to a snarling, barking, mouth-foaming stance of dominance if anyone made even the slightest move toward the object.

This made for a great party trick.

Some people are stupid. Why touch an animal that doesn't know you. You're Asking for it, the dog is just doing what it suppose to do.

Even my kids know to ask the owner for permission before approaching/petting a dog. We have had a Lab prior to their births and they love Bacon but understand that other dogs can be unpredictable.

While I find this whole thread pretty damn funny (I can't tell if people are being serious in the posts, or not)...this one takes the cake! bravo
