Just spoke with my dad. He's worried about a few things. The US economy (I've been out of a job for 6 months). Safety concerns. And some other things.

I mentioned that in most situations the economy usually improves during times of war. But his arguement is that we don't know who we are at war with and before it benefited the economy because there was production. We already have our weapons produced therefore we would not benefit that way. Plus with world markets in disarray (Tokyo down 6%+, taiwan didn't open, EU down ~10%) this is going to throw alot of problems in the short and possibly long term.

Plus they're afraid of the safety issues now. I live in OC but frequently go to LA to consult/play/etc. So they are asking me if I want to just go back to Taiwan for a little while. I told them that I didn't/wouldn't get on a plane that quickly because if the thinking of these terrorists is the same, a plane headed for Taiwan non-stop would hold alot more fuel than those that were coming from the east coast.

Geez, what to do now. I don't have a job. I have outrageuos rent. I could just sell off everything and head out, but is that being cowardly? I wouldn't mind going back cuz I can work there and don't have to pay rent. But I would be leaving behind a GF, friends, etc. Don't get me wrong I love the US but just to relieve them of any additional worries, should I go back? Damn damn damn...... :(

seems like a knee jerk reaction to me, but if you would be happier in taiwan then go i dont think anybody would hold it against you.

Yeah, sell off everything and leave.

Talk about an overreaction... if you're worry about the economy taking a dive, then it's no use running... if the US economy takes a dive, so will the rest of the world. If you're worry about getting killed in a terrorist attack, your chances of dying from an earthquake is greater in Taiwan.

Well for one thing, we have our own company in Taiwan and it was recently purchased by an american company. We still control it though. So as far as economic worries, not too much. Although my going there would mean saving about $3K/month. And I'm not overreacting. My parents are. My question was should I just do it so that they don't worry? And chances are greated that I die in an earthquake there? Where the hell did you get this info from? BTW, the house is in Hsinchu. Northwest coast.

yeah, leaving would be overreaction but it sounds like you've got some issues that you need to work out regardless, and if you don't you may not have a choice. Its a pain sometimes but its nice to have parents that are concerned and want you to be safe (and close).
