Damn my CPU is hot

I've got a 2600K in a P8P67-Deluxe, with a Thermalright Venomous-X mounted on top with a pair of GT 1450RPM fans in a push/pull config, and running LinX the chip is hitting mid 80s at 4.5GHz with 1.32v D: I tightened up the bolt in the middle of the mounting hardware with the provided wrench, I can't figure out why the heck this chip is so hot?

Did you use thermal paste? It's one of the reasons I use the rice/pea-sized bead method. When I am unsure about CPU contact I can remove the heatsink and look at how the thermal paste spread.

That does seem hot. I peak at 68C at 4.5GHz and 1.290V.

^ That's with an H100 though.

With my D14 the temps at the same clockspeed and voltage hit 69.5C.

I am surprised you are running ~15C hotter.

Check to see if the heat pipes are pressed up against the mounting bracket.

This was a problem with my HR-02. The mounting bracket was hitting the heat pipes, so the heat sink was prevented from laying flat on the CPU. I ended up filing a few notches in the bracket. My temps dropped a lot after that.
