My power cut off as I was booting XP, and now it wont boot. I tried the recovery console, but chkdsk /r doesnt work, and I dont know whats left to do.

I have a ghost backup, but I'm going to lose all my new mp3s, movies, pictures, games etc if I just reformat.

Any way I can save the stuff? I have another partition that I can copy it over, but since its NTFS a dos boot disk wont read it, and the recovery console wont let me copy or rename a directory. I could overwrite xp just to move everything, but I dont want it to overwrite my documents folder.

Help!!

Unfortunately, thats not an option, no one around here is using XP.

Is there a way to get a floppy boot disk that can read ntfs and copy directories between partitions?

Can you run Ghost from a floppy? Make an image of the partition as it is now, restore a good image, then grab the files out of the new image.

can you boot fromthe xp cd? try reinstalling over your current partition without reformatting. That always helps me.

For some reason I couldnt repair, but now I reinstalled over it and I'm up and running but....

Access is denied to the documents folder of my old xp account. Everything still seems to be in there, so how do get into it?
