Damn! I just got a deal on a gf3 ti200 and ran 3dmark 2001.

KyroII - 2084 marks
GF3 - 5437

I guess going cheap 6 months ago wasn't the best idea.

FYI, rest of system
1.2 ghz Celeron (tualatin) Powerleap processor
512mb ram
Intel 440bx board w/100mhz fsb

Oh, and I haven't oc'ed the geforce yet :).

Nice score! Btw, how did you get a Tualatin running in a 440BX ? I'm very curios because I want to add one to a CUSL2 (not TUSL2) ... I heard tualatins can't get the proper voltage from older mobos ...

The tualatin can't run on the bx. I bought a powerleap adapter/processor which handles the voltage. It's like a wired up slotket.

www.powerleap.com. It's overpriced, but I figured it would keep me going for another year before I have to buy a new machine.

the kyro2 doesn't produce accurate results in 3dmark 2001. My Radeon 32DDR will do about 3400 3dmarks and my kyro2 is a MUCH better card in actual game play. That said, the GeForce3 will blow both of them into the weeds, regardless.

3D#2001se fixed the order of render problem so anything scored now is the score, no excuses.

The question is do you play 3dmark everyday ? I thought not. a budget card is what it says it is, the comparrison between the geforce3 and kyro is pointless, like comparing an aplle and a pc ;)

Actually, there are a LOT of good excuses. Nature demo should run for one. The Kyro, and GF2s, and a lot of other cards can run it, just not in hardware. They shouldn't make DX8 cards look SO much better when DX7 cards can do it with just as much quality, abliet with less speed. Another is the fact that the High poly scene has yet to be fixed. Kristof has said that it should be with the 15.XX series of drivers though. (I don't count the Herc ones seeing as they obviously released thier version before PowerVR even felt they were ready). That should improve the score at least another 100 points. On the old 3dmark 2001 I'm getting about 2100. Let's add about 300 if I were using SE, (Dial-up, and too impatient to download), for a score of 2400. Supposing the high poly scenes being fixed adds 100 I would get 2500 marks with my Kyro 2 and 1gig Athlon. Not great, but seeing as it's a non T&L, DX7 card, not at all shabby either. At least it would FINALLY beat a GF2MX in the stupid benchmark on a comparable system.

The large score differential doesn't seem too surprising on a 1.2 Ghz Celeron... My guess would be the scores would be even closer if you were running on say an Athlon XP 2000. Wouldn't that make sense because of the software T&L done by the Kyro?

What I don't get is the Celeron upgrade. You could've got a 100MHz 1.2 GHZ Athlon on a name brand board for the same price and got a lot more power?

I just upgraded a Asus P2B (440BX) from PII350 to Celeron 1GHz on an MSI converter board for $95. Went without a hitch.

Celeron 1GHz $60
HSF $5
MSI converter $20
Shipping $10

Along with a new case and power supply.....no thanks.

It's a pos Dell with proprietary psu connections. I'd rather just spend the $160 and have a quick and easy upgrade. Besides, the celeron does everything I need it to do quite well.
