I just skimmed thru the 7900GT vs X1800XT thread and I must say, Im a bit disappointed in my decision to buy a eVGA 7900GT CO SC (550/1580).....I bought it off the forums for $280US shipped (2 days old) but that huge thread shows a X1800XT 512 for $236 at similar performance?!?!? Dayuummmmmmmm! Of course I can't buy directly from stores (cause Im in Canada), but if someone were to sell a used X1800XT512, it could go for as cheap as $200......$80 cheaper for a card that performs similarly?!?!

So, the question is, should I keep the card or sell it on eBay for more $$?

I play lotsa games. CSS is my main game. Might get into BF2. I'll be playing Oblivion for ~1 more month but after that I'll uninstall. I play almost all single player FPS games too.

You can't find the 512 for that cheap, they are at least $270. Yours is overclocked a lot and should perform the same if not better (excluding Oblicion and BF2). It would be pointless to switch. Just stick with your card. The X1800XT IS better at stock, but if you OC it on stock volts to your levels or more, it will be slightly faster. If you volt mod, your card can be much faster. Go buy a VF700 and a conductive ink pen and volt mod, you won't regret it. At least OC yours to 560+ on stock volts.

You could always do the volt mod thing and make the 7900gt faster. I am currently runnining the same card as you at 580/1720, but I am thinking about upgrading to the x1900xt just to have some head room down the road with the extra memory. Hope this helps...

The 7900GT is a nice card, so I wouldn't worry about it to much. I doubt you'll be to unhappy with it. Although valve engine games like CS:S and Oblivion both favor ATI hardware, and there are some decent deals on that these days.

Ignore Most benhmarks to a degree. Most benchmarks don't take into account retail cards which for Nvidia are clocked differently. The X18XT is overall a better card at defualt clocks for the 7900GT (which is 450MHz) but at the CO levels (as you said 550) the 7900GT will be the better performer in all but maybe Oblivion (should have a lead in BF2 and I believe NV FEAR performance has been improved so it should have the lead in that).

I hoenstly think trying to get a X1800XT will actually lower your performance not increase them. Tha said If your nitpicking a couple of frames here and there on a card you already Purchased, then you would be better off purchasing a 7900GTX or if you get a good deal a X1900XTX.

No buyer's remorse allowed. The $232 deal on a 512 meg X1800XT was a one-day only event, you can't get one anywhere near that cheap now. And used on ebay you're talking mid $300s.

The X1800XT allows HDR + FSAA in Oblivion (which looks absolutely FANTASTIC!) but otherwise the cards are very evenly matched. Don't sweat it.

I see, just wanted to make sure I made a good choice...I read about the volt mod and it does in fact look very easy to do (even though Ive NEVER done any physical mods except for soft ocs). I already have a VF700 on my card right now so Ill just pull it off and reuse it, or Ill look for a cheap VF900 down the road :D. How's a 7900GT modded to the max VS a X1800XT modded to the max?

Fairly certain in speed terms and unless your making use of 512 i.e MASSIVE resolutions that a maxed out 7900GT will own a 1800XT maxed out in terms of SPEED... quality/ IQ though is arguable in favour of the X1800Xt....

I am happy with my 7900GT... going to get GRAW 2moz to see what that looks like! :D

Vmod the 7900GT, have it run at 700/1900, it'll pwn a X1800 at those speeds (exculding Oblivion because even my SLI setup can't beat a single X1900)

If I volt mod........should I just sell the CO SO and get a regular 7900gt? It would be a waste to have it preclocked if Im gonna voltmod and void warranty anyways....

You got any reviews or benchmarks to substantiate that with? I'm interested in knowing how your OCd 7900GT performs agains my OCd X1800XT 512.

Even though the 7900GT isn't as good a card as the cheaper X1800XT, it's still a great card. Don't worry about it.
