Well it seems I've lost a domain name I've been using for years.
I was hosted with this company who registered the domain name and also provided my hosting.
I was due to renew my hosting in November last year but I'm travelling and didn't get the invoice. February of this year I remember that I should have been asked to pay by now. I send them an email. Their accounts dept gets back to me screaming about how I was 4 months overdue etc etc and that I'd have to pay them if I wanted to transfer my domain name.
Well I refuse as I had no intention of hosting another year with them and so they said I had to pay for the four months I'd used, but I refused again as It wasn't up to me to regulate their accounts, if I don't pay in November they should have shut my account down then not now!
I used godaddy.com a week ago to put through a domain transfer and have heard nothing. Today I check and my site is gone, my FTP access is gone, which is to be expected seeing as I've not paid. However, I think they might have refused the transfer of my domain due to my not paying. But I'm listed as the administrative contact AND their own website says (in the FAQ) that I'm the legal owner of the domain name for two years (I paid two years in advance).
But I think they're going to dig their heels in. I could threaten legal action but I've no money and wouldn't have a clue how to anyway.
Damn.
