Damn, it sucks when you can't trust your own family...

I live with my aunt. I went back to visit my mother for the weekend and come back home Sunday evening to find my guitar out and on the floor and two chairs pulled up to my computer, both monitors moved and repositioned, find some of my CD-Rs and DVD+Rs stolen, and my pair of dumbells had the weight changed on them. I didn't think they would even go on my computer as it's not even theirs to touch. I expected to be respected by them as I do nothing disrespectful to my aunt, uncle and cousins and stay out of their way as much as possible. So, I'm pissed off and now and and went to confront my cousin about it. His response was "I wanted to see something". So, I was about to fvckin' rip on him but all of a sudden my aunt's mother walks in to visit, so I had no chance to give them a piece of my mind. Looks like I'll have to buy maybe totes or something which I can lock.

Cliffs:
Come home to find my stuff fvcked with
Confront my cousin
About to bitch at him and company arives
Will have to buy something to lock my stuff up in

Now, this comes to my question. I'm thinking that they will try again to use my computer. I'm thinking of passwording my account, creating another and locking it down as much as possible and then programming something in VB which pops up windows with various witty insults and then shuts down the computer. Or maybe letting it go and using a keylogger to see what they're doing. But, I just want something that will make them think: "Yeah, I got away with it." but then something pops up like "The joke's on you buddy! How do you like me now?". Basically a prank. Any suggestions?

Also, I was thinking a fake virus thing where it runs and they'll think they screwed up my computer. Since they know very little about PCs, they'll freak.

Uh. If you have Windows 2000 / XP all you need to do is password your account and lock it when you leave (like you do for a work PC). That isn't very hard. Although, there is a chance one of them might know how to boot into something like ERD Commander. But I'm hoping you don't have someone like that at home.

Who is 'they'? I thought it was just your cousin that messed with your stuff.

By all means, follow up on the missing CDs/DVDs, but don't make a thing about messing with your stuff while you live in someone else's house, unless there's damage done or missing items. Lock it down if you want, but don't be an ass to people who've opened their home to you.

You don't need to play games with them. Just lock your sh!t up and forget about it. Trying to get revenge will just lead to more problems.

Put a password on the computer, put a lock on the closet door or buy a storage trunk or something with a lock on it.

If it's a one time thing, then lighten up. But if it's continuous and they damage things, then lock up what you need to.

As for a prank.. take a picture of them and let people here PhotoChop it into various poses or X-rated things and stuff like that. Then leave that as your background.

Would you let them use it if they asked first. You should tell them next time just to ask if they wanna use your stuff.

I confronted them about that and told them before using my stuff to ask.

So you are suggesting that he put a lock on a room that doesn't belong to him? How would that look to the people who cannot get into a room in THEIR own house? In my house it wouldn't look too good. Are you paying rent? If no, then consider the CDR/DVD media and the computer time as a small repayment.

Even if you are paying rent, this is your family. Annoying is just part of the package. If you don't like the living arrangements, then move out, but don't sh!t where you eat.

if you live there for FREE.... you should chill out. If you are PAYING rent thats another thing.

Either way, they should still respect your privacy. You could first password lock your account. I personally would install a key logger program.... let them log into my PC a few times and see what the hell they are doing. If they are looking at Porn... man that would be some great blackmail... hehehe

Simply ask your cousin "Hey, someones been looking at animal porn on my computer. I have the time and website they visited.... any idea who may have been using my computer?" Than watch their face light up. hahaha

I would also ask your aunt if it would be ok to install a door lock for privacy reasons. Ask nicely and explain that you would feel a little more comfortable. Don't say things like, "I don't want people using my stuff!" Thats rude. Just say you need a little privacy and hope they will understand. Being revengeful will only cause tension in the house and prolly get you booted out.

So his cousin is the one putting the roof over his head? And that's a poor excuse to justify theft.

The house is his Cousin's 100% more than it is his. Also, a couple of CDRs/DVDs are pretty much disposable materials today. It is not like he stole his wheels off of his car.

Well 100% * 0 = 0 in my book. He pays rent, and his aunt and uncle are the ones that are helping him out, not his cousin.

Big deal that they're relatively inexpensive, he could've asked or left a note, at the very least.
