Damn it. Lost my chance to get my Wii.

So I wrote this script that sends me a text message when a wii is available on Amazon. I checked and added one in the cart. I then thought about it a bit more and went back and added 2 more in. Got to the checkout and got the message that the 'product was no longer available'!! Argh!! Didn't know that they were this popular. Need to be quicker next time. I wasted about 30 seconds deliberating whether I should get them or not and lost out.

Next time hopefully.

I bought one for a relative on Monday at Gamestop for $249. I called them on Friday... they said a shipment may come in on Monday around 11. I show up at 11:10, Wii in my hands paid for at 11:13.

Did the same 6 months ago for when I got mine.

People swear by Wiitracker.com... I guess I'm lucky as I find it pretty useless.

I was lucky enough to get one at ebgames downtown. I tried the wiialerts but it didnt work for the first week. I kept calling ebgames and raced over during lunch one lucky day and scored mine.

It doesn't make sense to me, I thought the idea of a game console was to sell games. If Nintendo would get off their ass and put these things in the hands of people that are going to great lengths to buy them it would seem that they would be dominating the industry. I actually didn't know that there were tracker sites out there otherwise I'd have used those instead of writing my own thing.

I actually didn't know that there were tracker sites out there otherwise I'd have used those instead of writing my own thing.

Yeah there are a few. I would check it at like 7AM central and bunch of Wiis would have been sold online at like 4 AM local. Also seemed like 75% of online sales available were package deals near and above the $600 line and that was of no interest to me.

However, if you want to go with Walmart's $677 priced one with like 6 games... you can return the games. Friend of mine did that and total price came back down to near 300 or less in the end. Just some added hassle.

Got one by blind luck a few weeks ago at a Target in Memphis. They had just gotten a shipment in the day before which was their first since Christmas Eve. I grabbed one. It has been played by either myself, my wife or my daughters nearly every day. We generally limit the play time to 30 minutes or so but I can definitely see why Wii's are so popular. My wife and I have a blast playing Big Brain Academy both solo and against each other.

A friend of mine was working at CC when they were released. About 2 weeks after, he called me up in the morning and told me to get up there at 1pm as they were getting 22 in that day. Went up there before 1, they had already arrived, and within about 5 minutes had it in my hands. It's nice having someone who can give you a heads up about something like that.
