The picture on my 3 or 4 year old Viewsonic GS790 is getting twitchy, like it is compressing a bit then expanding again :(

I have the same monitor and I think its going bad too. It was starting to ghost on static images...like icons on the desktop! I changed the resolution from 1280x1024 to 1280x960 and it looks good as new. But, its still a reminder that I should start looking at monitors/lcds.

i think ViewSonic monitos are garbage. my roommate had one and the screen went blurry after 2 years. i've had my Samsung for over 4 years now and the picture/colors still looks like the day i got it.

My Monitor does that sometimes.. Its really annoying. The far right side of the screen seems like it flickers but then it will stop after a bit. I need a new monitor too. Mines still under warrenty but they say I NEED my purchase receipt but I can't find it anywhere :(

EDIT: BTW I have a Philips 19" 109B I have had it for ALMOST 3 years just in time for my warrenty to expire lol.

My Viewsonic PF790 flickers occassionally... as if a light behind it is going a bit kooky. Fortunately, it is barely noticeable 99% of the time. It's ooooooold, so I went ahead and ordered a Samsung 710T yesterday, since my new desk really can't take such a beast of a monitor the Viewsonic is.

Pardon me but I have owned viewsonic monitors now for about 6 years and am nothing but satisfied. I have two 21" P815 monitors and a 19" LCD and a nextvision N6 by viewsonic and I couldnt be happier. Great monitors!

Our 5 year old Gem 17" CRT failed about a week ago...it would occasionally flicker and make a clicking sound real quick. A few nights later it did it constantly....next morning, turned on, worked fine, then click, click, black screen. :p

I have seen somthing like that on mine too, but only when sun shines from behind onto it. I think it just overheats and gets crazy. Maybe your monitor just gets too hot at some point too???
As soon as I put the blinds down, it was back after like 2 mins.

Try it on another system or video card. I have a monitor at work that I thought for sure was going bad, but something with the onboard video is making it flicker green... So it's not the monitor.

anyway, good luck.

I love my G790 (same as the GS790, except it doesn't use a short necked tube) which I've been using for more than 4 years, and it's still going strong. It sounds like a power supply problem. It could be a failing capacitor or individual component.

If the pic is basically good, and you have a good, reputable repair service available in your area, it may be worth getting a repair estimate on this monitor. If they say it can be repaired with good projected life, it may cost a lot less than buying a new one with as good a pic as this monitor can provide.

Viewsonic is my favorite brand of monitor, especially when you get above the consumer grade "A" and "E" models. Their "G" (graphic) and "P" (professional) series monitors have always impressed me.

Any individual monitor can fail. That's why there are warranty programs. I'd be suprised if the monitor you're griping about is a "G" or "P" series. I'd also be suprised if your complaint was based on bad experience with more than just this one monitor.
