Damn it!! Hard disk is screwing me again...

I have a USB hard disk enclosure with a 120 gb drive... It was working without any problems until today. While I was watching a movie stored in that 120 gb drive, the movie started skipping and then it gave me an error that there was some sort of problem with the drive (I got one of those annoying bubbles that pop up on the lower right hand corner in the taskbar)... I thought my HD had gone dead but when I opened the safely remove hardware thing, to my surprise the HD was there (however, when i went to My Computer, the HD wasn't there)

Now, the problem is that for some reason the disk isn't being detected so that I can use it... meaning that if i open up "my computer", the 120gb drive isn't there.

Any ideas?
 
I checked and the drive is detected BUT it tells me it's not initialized (which is weird because the drive WAS previously formatted and the error happened when I was watching a movie on that HD)

I went to the event log and I discovered the error but I dunno what to do... I dont wanna lose all the data I had 🙁

The data should still be on the drive, it is just the partition table that has been corrupted. A method is needed to read the raw data on the drive. A Rescue Disk may do this. If not, a Data Recovery Program should then work. I suggest to copy your data to another hard drive, then test your drive with a manufacturer's diagnostic utility to verify the drive will still operate properly, then you can repartition and reformat the drive for normal use.

take a linux live cd, and let it boot into linux, then maybe you can find and save all of your data if youve had no luck with the other data recovery software. once youve booted into linux, ive found taht my hadd's were already mounted and seen.
i did this with a dying harddrive on my wifes laptop and was able to save 2000+ pictures. and other misc files

Which linux distribution's LiveCD did you use and where did you copy the data to?

Upon review, it seems I forgot some more appropriate advice. It may be possible to recover the partition table, thereby removing the need for data recovery. Try one of these to attempt repair to your partition table.
