I took my suburban into the Dealer A because it was intermittently going into engine shutdown and it would crank and not start.

This is because my FSD was going bad on my Injector Pump and every person who knows Chevys know that this part on the pump goes bad at an alarming rate. Its so bad GM made a warranty extension of 120,000 miles and 11 years on the entire pump. I knew that and they came up with a wonderful idea.

Lets screw this guy out of his warranty repair!

They came up with "your alternator is bad and its going to be $518 to replace it"

When I asked HOW a bad alternator causes an engine to not start - they said that chunks of metal were in my fuel line tripping my optical sensor causing the computar machine to kill my engine.

I called BS again and they held my keys hostage for $104.23.

Took it to a local independent diesel shop - $75 later they told me the part under warranty was likely going bad.

Went to Dealer B, owned by Dealer A - across town and talked with someone there. I got the part replaced under warranty.

Today, I went down to Dealer A and wanted to discuss the matter at length with the service manager named Tony. Turns out he left the company. I spoke with his two interims and discussed the issue at length. Needless to say, the words "professional negligence" and "race and national origin discrimination" came up a few times.

I explained how it took 5 weeks to get the situation resolved and the ridiculousness surrounding it. I told them I wasnt able to go to Bike Week in Daytona and how I wasnt able to buy a trailer in Orlando, impeding business and recreational purposes.

Heres what happened:

Service Advisor that told me about my "bad alternator" = Fired
Tech that told me about my "bad alternator" = Fired
Boss of both = Gone
$104.23 Diagnosis Fee = Refund in progress
$75 Tow = Refund in progress
$75 Diagnosis at Independent mechanic = Refund in progress
New set of keys I requested = No charge, being made up on Monday
Next Service = No charge gift certificate being made up on Monday

We closed the conversation with "I'm glad we could settle this amicably. I dont want to be the nutjob that's camped out on US1 holding a picket sign that says THIS DEALER SUCKS"

w00t! Reminds me of last time I took my car in for a service at the dealership

I had an appointment at 8AM took it in and the guy said that it would take about 2 hours to service and that the courtesy van would take me back to my apartment. The courtesy van didn't show up until 10AM which made me pretty PO'd, but I was like nah I don't need a ride now it should be done at any time.

At 11 AM I talked to the service manager who said it was almost done, at 12:30 I'm starting to get fed up and I talk to the service manager and he says "We found a major problem with your transmission" but wouldn't elaborate. I'm a full time student and I run an IT consulting firm here in town and I'd cleared most of my day since it was Friday and I didn't have any classes, but I did have a 3 PM conference call.

At 2:30 I had my office re-schedule the call for Monday, and walked right into the General Manager's office right past his protesting secretary and told him to get my car off the jack then explained to him that his service teams gross incompetence caused me to miss an extremely important meeting (heh so I lied it was just a status report on a project for a client for Customer relations purposes) and I told him that I'd be posting my experiences with his shop on the local business review web site as well as my own. Long story short, there was no problem with my transmission, I got my car back, 2 free standard services and they drove out Saturday morning to my apartment picked up my car serviced it and dropped it back off with me at around noon :D

that's nice.
the problem is when you don't get to speak with real people. like at cell phone companies. i mean, i guess they are real, just don't seem very real to me.
it's almost like they dare you to do something. cause you very well can't. a lack of options and that early-termination fee.
