damn ipod hard drive problem

ok,
my ipod freezes up now everytime I try to access a file (i use it as a portable HD).. I figure I have to format it but is there a formatter that really does a good job? I'm on XP and I remember that there was a way back in the ol' days to format and check every sector (takes a while though) how do you do that now?

use the software provided by apple, thats my reccommendation....

the update package, 2.1 i think it was, includes a formatter. just use that.

if you want to run diagnostics on the ipod, run the diagnostics module:

- put ipod on hold, then off hold again
- reboot ipod using MENU and the PLAY/PAUSE BUTTON
- when you see the apple logo, press and hold the SKIP FW, SKIP REW and the SELECT button simulataneously. the screen goes blank. let go of the buttons, the ipod reboots, this time you'll see the apple sign in reverse, which means its loading diagnostics mode.

then just run a full system check, it'll do the rest.
