damn....i went to an interview on moday...never got a callback....

I had an interview about a month ago. They said they would contact me in about a month. The thing is, a guy in my class also interviewed with them and they called him 2 weeks later. He didn't really want to work for them and declined the 2nd interview.

I'm still waiting. I don't *really* want this job, but it would be nice to have an offer to fall back on if I can't find anything by the time I graduate.

I hope you are contacting them, periodically.

I haven't contacted them yet, because they said they would contact me in a month. But now that it has been a month, I think I may call them.

I'm still pretty new to the job hunt and it's not very fun.

Oh, you DEFINITELY need to call them, even if it wasn't a month later. The fact that you are showing interest in the job is very encouraging to an employer.

Never wait for a call back.

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to find that guy's card.

It use to be that you would have an interview and with in a week you would get a call back with a second interview or an offer. Or you would get a letter in the mail saying that they went with someone else.

Today you are lucky to just get a call that you have been hired.

That's rough and I know what it feels like. I went on an interview in early September, and they said they'd let me know in less than a week.

I call them ~1 week later and say, "Hey, what's up?"
Them: "Um...we haven't made a decision yet, why don't you call back in 2 weeks."

2 weeks later
"Hi, remember me?"
"Umm...I haven't had time to chat with the hiring manager, call back in a week."

1 week later
"y hall0 thar"
"We're trying to decide in which department the position will be under."
"Look, am I even being considered for the position?"
"Yes, yes, of course...why don't you call in a week."

1 week later
"quack"
"Well, you can call back in a week if you want, but I'll call if you we have anything"
"So, am I still being considered?"
"Yes, yes, of course."

Needless to say, the job posting is still open (it was open for months when I first applied) and I've moved on. Anyone want to open a company with me? We'll call it !hope and will never under any circumstances hire anyone. If things get tough, we'll cave in and hire an HR department and have daily floggings when they don't reply to emails.

On the other hand, if I were a recruiter and told a bunch of people I'd call them back in a month and one eager impatient person thought he was too good to wait that long and bothered me in the middle of a workday I'd be a bit annoyed.

Well, of course if he came off as an "impatient person thought he was too good to wait that long", you would definitely be annoyed.

When the interviewee makes the call, they'd present interest, not impatience. In such a case you would probably think, "Wow, this guy really wants to work here."

Trust me, I've been on both sides of that interviewing table. And I definitely wouldn't be working at Intel today, if I hadn't shown interest. 🙂

Companies are getting so inconsiderate these days🙂 They used to at least give you a dear john note, or thanks but no thanks. These days your lucky if they will answer your calls.

Last year I interviewed for a job and didn't hear back so I wrote them off, three months later they call me back for a second interview. I went to the second all went well but again I hear nothing, a month later I took a job with another company. Three months later (4 months after the 2nd interview) I get a call "We are pleased to make you an offer with our company", and they were actually surprized when I told them to go fsck themselves😕

Were you looking for an apt in DC?
Was it related to this job or just closer than Manassas?
<=== used to drive into Manassas from FFx
