Damn I think I just broke my Plextor CDRW

I flashed it to the newest firmware, and now I can't even install Max Payne. Max Payne CD is not even scratched. Nor can I watch any of my home made VCD's. Hows that one!!!

UGGGH this totally sucks.

Anyone have any ideas on what I could do to possibly fix this problem?

Call Plextor. They will set you up on how to get an RMA. Good Luck!!

Can it be flashed with the older firmware? I believe you can still download the older firmware from plextor.

Edit: Did you reboot after the flash?

Yeah I did reboot after the flash.

Also the reason why I flashed it was, it wasnt reading cd's correctly.

This type of thing always happens to me, DAMNIT!

I'm on hold with Plextor's tech support right now.

Hey Metaphor, the same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago. I have the 16/10/40A. I d/l'ed the newest firmware just for the heck of it, (by the way, I never had a problem with it anyway) flashed it, and the little light just blinked (or blunk)🙂. I emailed em' for an RMA #, and it took longer to get an RMA number than it did to ship it back, and get a BRAND spankin' new one 2nd day air straight from Plextor. Boy, did they suprise me!!! Man, I hope my Asus Mobo RMA goes this smooth!!!

Don't count on Plextor's RMA service to be that good. I called up when I broke my 16x drive and they said to go online and fill out an RMA request. I never got one back from them. So instead of waiting I just went out and bought a new drive.

One time I had a soft coffee cup in my Plextor CD tray when I accidentally pushed it with my leg. The drive closed and coffee splattered everywhere. It killed my Plextor drive and when I tried to get a refund for it, I was rejected. They should make all their drives water proof like other manufacturers. I'll never use Plextor again.

out of curiousity, did you turn DMA off for the drive before you flashed??
