Not only are they slow as hell... when they break down, THEY REALLY BREAK DOWN. And those geniuses at honda placed the nuts and bolts in an as awkward positions as possible! The car I'm talking about is a 91 Acura Legend. Took about 5 hrs get the intake manifold off. I hate hondas. Stupid headgasket failed and now its gotta be rebuilt. DID I FORGET TO MENTION I HATE HONDAS?

Actually, its more like they only design the car to be assembled, not disassembled. Just be happy you're not paying a mechanic to replace that head gasket.

Actually, its my friends Legend that I'm working on for him since the dealers were about to build him a new anus on repairing that head. If I get another request for hondas, I'm going to decline it even if its a fine asian girl.

sorry no pics unless you want to look at males and engines...

You say that now...

It wont matter how pretty the girl is to me. If you ever get your hands into that engine you will know what I mean, especially those (*#&(*$&#(*$&()$&#() exhaust bolts connecting to the Y-pipe.

good luck getting it fixed

When the headgsakets went out on my 12 year old supercharged mustang, people were blasting "ford reliability". Slight bias here, maybe?

I had a strange rattle/grinding noise which was soft in my Saturn 1997 SL2, took it into the shop. Turns out the POS needs a transmission rebuilding and that'll cost me $1400 which I don't have. Hmmm...

Guess I'll get a second opinion from the dealer, who will also charge me through the nose to look at it. Wonderful...just wonderful.

I love Hondas, can't stand domestic cars.

Hondas are suppose to be known for reliability COUGH COUGH.. while people who like imports tend not to like ford because of reliability issues.. so when your headgasket lasted 12 years, people were surprised :)

Just remember,

HONDA = Had One, Never Did Again
FORD = Found On Road Dead

As much as I like Hondas for effective transportation, I can't really deny that. You do have an excuse too, supercharger and all. :p

How many miles did the Legend have? Did it blow for no reason? You're the first person I've ever heard of who has had a mechanical problem/complaint with the Legend and that's pretty insane considering the nameplate has existed for 17 years.

outersquare,

I think the headgasket eventually just gave up and blew. The car has about 200k+ miles on it. The engine was shaking a little at first and started to overheat. Then a few weeks later coolant and steam came spewing out the rear of the head on the passenger side. :|

Thats a shame, all the ones I've heard of go 200k+ no problems. But those were all first generation ones, I don't know anything after the redesign.

As for the rough fix, I don't think it's really Honda specific, but more FWD cars in general with V6 ones being the worst.

My dad does all his own automotive work and he will never buy a FWD V6 because everything is crammed under the hood, making them near impossible to work on. Unless of course, you feel like stripping out everything that's in the way of what you want to replace.

I would have to agree with working on Honda cars, and yet I have never touched a Honda car. I looked under the hood of my grandfathers Civic and that was all it took to make me close it back and walk away shaking my head, luckily there was nothing wrong I just wanted to take a look at that tiny @ss engine, compared to me chevy 350 which is in my '75 Monte Carlo. I do all the work I can feasibly do to my monte when it needs it, along with helping out on working on some of our other vehicles. But I will not touch that Honda engine, too many wires and too many bolts in way to hard to get to places:( Now Honda motorcycles on the other hand I like, no not crotch-rockets, but cruiser style.

vw's tend to not be too bad to work on relatively, but i've only worked on mid 80's 4's (two gassers and a diesel)
still not as much room to work in the engine bay or underneath as i'm used to..but not much does when you're used to working on chevy trucks (1 trans swap, the rest just maintenance)

Uhh, you said yours had 94k miles on it...that's a tad shy of 200+k...

We had an '83 Accord with 180k+ miles when we sold it around '98...there's 15 years and 2x the milage :)

.well I finally got both heads off the block.. it took a lot of grunting and moaning and cuts on my hand. Funny thing, I dont know my hand is bleeding until I see the blood! :Q

I gots no pics, but it looks exactly like the one in this link

Sent both heads to a machine shop for a complete head job, $200 total. Is that a good price?
