i went to the dealer thursday and worked on a sign'n trade deal. i give them my 2000 GT sporty + $500 for fees, they give me a 2000 GT stick with a little more mileage.
soooo, i wasted yesterday taking off my mods and putting stocks back on. :|

i go in today, fill out the paperwork. everything's going well.:) salesman goes in to get the final approval from the manager. manager comes out and says that they need "more money." $4000 more to be exact.

reason being that if you consider the same EXACT car, one sitting in a dealership is worth A LOT more than the one i'm driving. and they won't do the sign'n trade with me since someone WILL come along and buy theirs.

and i wasted all that time taking off my mods. NOW i gotta put them BACK on.

they're listed. :)

i wanted a stic because i plan i plan on redoing the internals, boring the head and TB, along with a few other things to make 450hp+.

otherwise i'd need to spend another $2000 to upgrade the torque converter to 650hp/750lb.ft and add a shift kit.

DAMN!!!

have you looked into putting a stick in there yourself?
usually they make the cars very similar for stick and auto so that they can put in whatever for each car

Well if you already worked a deal with the salesman from before, then that deal should still hold true. I think the dealer is just giving you the push around. They were hoping that you would pay the extra $4K and get the 5-spd version.

I'd suggest you keep copies of the paperwork and call up Mitsubishi USA and tell them your story. I'm sure they can do something.

the numbers weren't on the contract. they were on a separate piece of paper. the salesman went to get final approval from the manager to finish the process. up to that point we'd covered my background, my credit, my income, etc.

Well did you argue with the Manager?? Tell him that they wasted your time at the dealer, removing/re-installing mods, etc.. Your time could be better spent somewhere else..etc..

There must be something you can work out with the dealer. I would still report them to Mitsubishi USA though, and make sure the Dealer knows you are doing that.

yeah, i argued with him for half an hour. he dropped the tag down from $5000 to $3000.

basically, he said that it wouldn't make sense for him to only charge me $500 since he could sell it to somebody else for a lot more. it basically came down to being nice and making an exception for me or making a profit. $$$ won.

but i can take it in and get a free wash and wax if i want. big whoop.

because the same EXACT car is valued $5000 higher sitting in their lot than it is sitting in my driveway.

heh, my car on a dealer's lot: $4500, my car as a trade in: $700 (assuming good condition)

I got a Dakota rolling down an assembly line and I won't offer my car as a trade in because I'll lose money. I'm just gonna sell it for $2k or so to basically get rid of it and pay for some light mods for the Dakota.
