Next month I'm going to try to get an increase on my Circuit City card so that I can get some stuff for my apartment next year w/ no interest...I will be turning 19 next month, I've been building credit with a cell phone, this CC card, and an Amex Blue card since last August, I've consitantly used and paid them, never missed a payment. Today I was just stupid and thought the Amex was due on the 7th but it was the 5th...so I missed it by one frickin day....is this gonna vastly hurt my credit, since I have so little?

Call amex and tell them the situation. CC companies are usually so thrilled to see peope make steps to resolve things, they will forget about it. I'm 100% positive =)

Is AMEX that anal they report people as 30 days late within 48 hrs? Does it not have a 5-day grace period?

call up amex and tell them you never got the invoice for the month. i did that for my gold card, told them i've never had a missed payment for the past two years and they should wipe it off my records. the cust rep put me on hold - then said ok. :)

I actually never did get my invoice, cuz it was sent to my dorm room and I'm at home. For me that doesn't matter, cuz I do everything online...but it could still work

Do they report it if it's only a few days late? I had always thought they didn't.

That said, I'm paranoid and always pay a few weeks early.

I don't know exactly how AMEX works but a lot of the time missing one payment won't hurt your credit score. It's missing consecutive payments or consistently missing payments that lenders really get nipped in the bud on. Not to say that it won't, I'm probably wrong, but it won't drop your score by a huge amount of points if that's what you're worried about. Especially if the amount was rather small.

1. It's not going to hurt you one bit unless it's over 30 days late.

2. The cell phone is not helping you build up credit.

I think the cell phone does since, at least for Sprint, they have my full SSN and all that jazz and I know they did a credit check. When I first got the phone I had only had a CC for about 3 months and they had me put down a $125 deposit (which I got back a year later).

Anyway, Deeko, you should be fine. I've submitted payments online a day or two late in the past with no ill effects. The strange thing is, I had two cards from them for a while. I had both on electronic statements. Then, when I canceled one, I started getting paper statements for the one I kept. Hmmm, come to think of it those have stopped now as well. Strange....

Two days late? It'll never get to your credit report, most likely. All of the CC companies I've talked to have told me they don't report until you're >30 days late.

Marshmello is wrong, however, when he says one late pay won't hurt your credit score. If you get one >30 day late on your report, it can devastate your credit score. (At least for a few months, until you've got it far enough behind you to demonstrate that it's not chronic.)

I don't know what AMEX's policy is now but I had one 20 years ago and at that time, they didn't report to any of the credit agencies!!

I am a Sprint PCS customer and my cell phone account is not on my credit reports. Cell phones do not have any effect on your credit, they only check your credit report to see if you pay on time and if you are worthy of having an account with said phone company.

Your credit report will show nothing of your cell phone account.

If your due date was really 7/5 (not 6/5) you should be fine, unless you're 30 or 60 days late.

Also I thought the "0% interest" specials were for NEW CUSTOMERS, you already have an existing CC line of credit ... unless CC employees get special perks on financing?

The way the credit score works is it will put something on the report if it is a) over 30 days late or b) over 60 days late.
that said, I'm paranoid as well, and always pay mine about a week early via the net.

Deeko,

A day or two late won't hurt your credit score at all. 30 days = not so good. 60 days = REAL bad.

The Grand Nagus doesn't know a no interest deal :Q:p

Anyone can get no interest, regardless of how long you've had the card. In fact, it doesn't even have to be something we are offerring no interest on, we will automatically do no interest for a purchase over $300, and if you plead with the manager, you can get a few months on cheaper stuff too.

Cell phones may not be on your credit report...but gym memberships sure are, woohoo!

And as everyone's said above, the company most likely won't even report it as late to themselves. I've had a few payments not clear until a day or so after being due, and have yet to receive the dreaded late payment fee on either of my cards. The one time it was assessed, it was taken off the next day.
