DAMN: How fast could I upgrade a A7M266 to?

Reading the AMDMB.com, ASUS forum, you will see that some people have gotten up to an XP1800+ or 1900+ cpu to work. However, it seems that ASUS official take on this is that it will run up to an XP1500+. There are many, many threads on this board there. You should do some further research there. You might need a BIOS update also. There is also the "problem" of needing to flash the BIOS first with a "non-XP" CPU, setting the Slew rate, then installing the XP CPU. Do some reading. I am a (somewhat) proud owner of this board and have been for over a year. However, I am dissappointed in ASUS's response and support for faster CPU's with this board. Not a big issue now, but later I was hoping to keep the same board and upgrade the CPU considerably. Now it looks as though a new board is in the picture. Of course, sometimes that is a fun thing anyway. 😀
