Damn, hard drive died...

Luckily I have all my documents and important files on another drive along with a week old tape backup. 😀

The only files I lost were some programs and movies. Which are replaceable for the most part. Ohhh, well.... I'll never buy another IBM drive. (This was a 60GXP replacement for a dead 75GXP). I'm pretty darn sure it's out of warranty too.

Anyway, just thought I'd post about my sucky lucky today.

btw: The real kicker is that I had copied all the files on the drive just two days ago onto another drive in my system. But once the IBM drive was repartitioned, I copied the files back and deleteed them for the other drive. I'm trying a undelete utility right now, but I doubt it'll do any good.

My 75GXP that I bought over 2 years ago is still going strong, but it does make some funny noises occasionally....

I hope to God it doesen't die before I can get a new one.

It won't hurt to contact IBM about it.....with as bad a rep as they got with the GXP series dying on people, you might be able to get a replacement. (And sell it 🙂 )

The new IBM's Roxors my Boxors, but the old ones do suck. As a matter of fact the new 180gxp's were rated better than the Maxtors and WDigitals.

the 75GXP were top notch when they first came out too, it was only later when they started dying people knew to stay away.

Well, I just downloaded Easy Recovery Pro and it's actually recovering the files! 😀😀😀

Well, I'll have to wait and see when it's done.

i have a 2.5 year old 75gxp 30 gb. and every summer it fvcks up then becomes fine again! wtf... as if it's tormenting me. and ever since i got it, it makes this clicking noise.

anyway recently it's been getting a lot of read problems. and i get lots of "bad block" alerts in event viewer. i also lost the file table on my partition D. the files were salvaged but names, directories etc were lost. so i just got a maxtor 80gb yesterday. now i just gotta find if the ibm is still under warranty.

Kickass, this just keeps getting better! I just checked and apparently this drive is still under warranty until 12-10-03! 😀

I just created an RMA for it and will send in this week. Hopefully I'll get a bigger drive back and it won't be a refurb unit. When I sent my 45gig 75GXP they sent me this 60gig 60GXP as a replacement for free.

Damn, Easy Recovery Professional is a life saver... it's already recovered 11,952 files out of 19,548 (Around 22 of 38 gigs). It's still only like 70% done. 🙂

I'd recommend you guys picking it up for these types of situations.
