Damn got a unrepairable tire puncture

Got a flat tire last week cause by 3 nail punctures. 2 nails were still lodged in the tire but somehow the 3rd came out on it's own. I also broke a stud when trying to put the spare on too. I plugged up all 3 holes myself but yesterday I notice the tire was still losing air. Had a tire shop by my work place check it out and damn it, one of the nails went through and punctured the sidewall too. Just a pin size hole right above the bead. Shop wants $150 for new tire mounted and balanced. Tire still has a good 80-85% tread left too.

Yep, sidewall puncture is the deal-breaker. That sucks.

I had a sidewall puncture on my tire just a few days ago. I had it patched from inside (kinda like how you patch a bicycle tire) but with a thicker patch. So far so good. I haven't noticed any ill effects, and it hasn't lost any pressure at all.

Only cost me $15 after tip too.

If it's truly in the sidewall and not just at the edge of the tread, that is VERY dangerous and not recommended by any reputable shop.

You should not be driving on that tire.

Well, yeah. It is very close to the tread, and was the size of a pinhole. I probably could have used Krazy glue on it. I thought anywhere on the sidewall was an issue though?
