Damn DVD Drives

I have tried two Toshiba DVD Drives (SD-M1212) and whenever I try to play a movie it will lock up the computer. I initially had PowerDVD 3.5? and upgraded to 4.0. With 3.5 I would get an error saying that the disc was dirty and playback could not continue. I checked the disc but there was nothing wrong with it. In 4.0 it just freezes while the sound makes a looping sound and the computer locks up. I installed another Toshiba Drive and I tried to play Ocean's Eleven and I can't get past the first chapter without this happening. I tried the drive in with and without DMA enabled. No luck.

Any Ideas?

My sys:

Asus A7V133
AMD 1Ghz
SB Live
448MB of RAM
Win98SE

thanks in advance

So I tried WinDVD 4.0 and was able to watch all of Ocean's Eleven as well as one of the commentaries. Unfortunately when I tried to watch one of the other features. Crashed again.

If anyone has any idea... I'd like to be able to watch DVD's on my PC withouth problems.

Thanks

Before you installed PowerDVD 3.5, did you have any other DVD players installed? I vaguely remember PowerDVD didn't play nicely with the ATI player and maybe WinDVD, and any of the others that use the same two engines. If you did, this could be an issue with not having completely removed one of the older players (or their engines). If not.. uh, good luck. My SD-M1212 has been pretty reliable as long as I didn't knock it around while playing. 😉
