Poor kitty's eye is all pissed-off. Probably from rough-housing with her sister. Okay so for all you peoples who may experience this with your new kitten (or cat) at some point....here's some info. (might save you a vet fee.....but use your own discretion).
symptoms were:
- Got home from work yesterday to find her eye tearing.....alot, and slight swelling
- Tearing continued through to next morning...also noticed that swelling had increased. (took pics before work to post online and consult co-worker who's an ex-vet-tech)
- Got home from work again and noticed it looked worse again.....took her to vet.

Got prescribed a triple-antibiotic ointment from a vet....that's all it is....Walgreen's people. Clean the tears away and smear it right into the eye....eyeball itself if you can, such that when he/she blinks it'll work it's way into the 3rd eyelid. Sounds nasty....but it's what's required to make the conjunctivite reduce swelling. 3x/day for 3-5 days. Check back with vet afterwards (if you already wetn to vet....or if it doesn't improve). Vet was telling me that the great thing about cats' eyes is that they either get worse big-time or better big-time real fast.....so there's no confusion.

Anyway, I don't have pics but her eye is covered with this antoboitoc ointment and she look miserable (one more dose tonight before bed).

I should have listened to my ex-vet-tech co-worker who told me to do the exact same thing....but....it's the eye ya know? I don't like taking chances.

...and on that note, neither should you. Don't take chances and don't take this post as a diagnosis...but as information....with pics to help.

Stick with it.

My cats are the best friends I have. I'm still relatively new to the town in live in (Denver) and outside of a few work friends.....I really don't hang out with many people (yet)....I don't wanna be "that guy" that goes to clubs and bars alone, ya know?. So these cats are keeping me sane. *sniff*

......okay moment of vulnerability is over....move along people.

Make sure you wash your hands pre and post antibiotic application.

Most people call conjunctivitis in humans pink eye, fyi.

Ah that makes sense.

I wash my hands so often out of habit from work it's a non-issue.

I'd be surprised if it was contageous to cat>human.

But if it is, it's extremely contageous. You'd need to wash your hands immediately after touching the eye to prevent transfer.

I would think the vet would have said something....but in any case...seriously, I have a habit of completely washing my hands after they get the slightest of wet (AB ointment included) simply because if have to all the time at work....even at home.

Yeah, I thought the same thing.. I doubt it's caused by the same bacteria/virus in cats/humans.

Never know, though.

Haha, what an adorable yet pitiful picture! :D

hehe thanks. It is isn't it? She's actually her usual chipper-self at this moment, playing with anything and everything she can. I guess she fogives easily. ;)
