Hello I obviously have a problem with my computer system its seems to be getting somewhat worse lately where as it will be laggy. Moving the mouse around or just doing other tasks comes in spurts. Its annoying the crap out of me. Its definately not a software issue either as I have no viruses or spyware according to avg, ms antispyware, sbybots, etc and I keep my system patches up to date.

Also another reason I can tell its not software related is the fact that I've tried installing XP from scratch with multiple genuine CDs. It would get to the part in the install were is starts loading the drivers and for some reason setup will not find any of the needed then eventually will BSOD after complaining about that.

I don?t think its PSU related either as I had a brand new spare SPI 530watt ATX PSU around to test swapping out for awhile. It didn?t make any difference.

Also occasionally when I had boot my system it will get just past the post screen and start a new screen either blank or a flashing _ at the top. I managed to fix that by reconnecting all the IDE and power cables to make sure they were good and tight. I thought maybe something could be wrong with the HD so I tried a known good spare and still had the XP install BSOD at driver issue.

It doesn?t seem like it would be heat related at both MBM and bios readings read decent temps even under full load my CPU never goes above 56C case 31C. Idle temps currently are at 50C CPU 28C case. That?s pretty much where they stay give or take 1-3C depending on time of day.

The following is my list of hardware:
AMD 2100+ Palomino 1.74GHZ 266MHZ FSB 256K L2 /w massively large Zalman CPU heat sink(not sure of module)
Kingston 256MB PC 2100 266MHZ Ram Stick
Cosair 512MB PC 3200 400MHZ Ram Stick
Asus A7N8X2.0 NForce2 Ultra 400 AXT Motherboard
Creative SB Live 5.1 16-bit PCI Sound Card
Linksys LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapter PCI Network Card
ATI Rage Fury Pro 32MB AGP Video Card
ATI TV Wonder Pro PCI Capture Card
Sony DVD-ROM/CD Burner Combo Drive
SPI 350Watt ATX PSU
2 decent quality Case fans(cant remember exact type without looking)
Samsung SyncMaster 172x LCD
Microsoft Intellimouse and old Gateway keyboard.
Enlight 7232 ATX Mid Tower Case

I'm at a complete loss on what the problem is. Does anyone have any ideas or any good diag software to test the hardware to figure out what might be causing the problem? I?m literally about ready to throw the darn thing out the window and go buy a new comp lol.

This might be a hassle to do.. but i've always find this is the best method to figure out which of my parts aren't workin' properly..

take out all the unessential components (Ethernet Card,Capture Card,Sound Card, n anything else you don't need for a basic installation) install XP or any other OS you want when finished.. put back all the other stuff one by one. (install one component/card, boot up,drivers, reboot if it's doin fine continue with the other parts one at a time to determine which one is defective/malfunctioning)

good luck

This might surprise you, but it could be in the bios or the hdd and its controller. Make sure the hdd controllers are in DMA mode. Check to see if the chip controls the hdd or if its the bios. You want the chip controller to do this instead of the bios. You can check this in the device manager. If your not sure, check hdd throughput.
