I finally broke down and picked up some OTC Claritin D this weekend. I've been taking the generics at night (as they just knock me out).

So now I'm all doped up on the Claritin train, and rather than the debilitating sneezing, itchy eyes. heat flashes etc that come with sever allergy attacks, my hands are shaking like leaves, I'm CONSTANTLY hungry (horrible munchies, except I want a side of beef not some cheetos).

I dunno whats worse.

I wouldn't wish bad allergies on my worst enemy.

Claritin D contains pseudophedrine, which will make you jumpy as hell....you only really need it for congestion.

Regular claritin doesnt make you all shaky and stuff.

Nothing works for my allergies or colds unless it has pseudophedrine in it. It does not make me jumpy though, it knocks me out for 12+ hours, I feel like a zombie when I take it.

So if I wasn't stuffy I didnt need the "D"?

Nope...I always felt that the Claritin D did more harm than good. The regular stuff works just as well, no side effects at all that I notice, assuming you take it regularly and *before* you actually have an allergy attack.

Don't even bother buying the overpriced brand name stuff. Just get generic loratadine.

Wow, I have absolutely no side effects from pseudophedrine. I don't feel sleepy or jumpy.

Although, whenever my parents take sudafed, they get drowsy. I just feel normal without the congestion. And Claritin is awesome for me. I used to take Benadryls allergy medicine, but I would get rashes on hands and arms whenever I'd take it.

Clariton-D doenst work to well for me. I have been on Allegra-D for several years and it works great. BUT my POS health insurance company no longer covers Allegra-D starting last month. So 30 pills now cost $120 bucks. im not paying that. ill just take Clariton-D and suffer.

It really sucks that they took Actifed (the original stuff) off the market. In my case, that stuff was far and away the best antihistamine (I could care less about the pseudophedrine in it; I wanted the tripolidine hydrochloride).

Hooked on D-bombers too, eh?

I'm down to 2 a week, so I'm doing good. I usually use them to clear up my congestion/allergies and/or to give me energy. They definitely shouldn't knock you out. You have to show them an ID when you buy it because people use it to make Meth. Benadryl will put you to sleep quick, but Claritan D's shouldn't. If you body doesn't react well to Claritan D, you'll just have to find a different medicine. Try nasal spray perhaps.

Oh I have perscription sprays too. Don't worry about that :)

Citrix: I'min the same boat... I think its like $70 for Allegra-D which was my last prescription pill. It worked like a charm, but I can't swing that. Kleenex is much cheaper :)

Regular stuff will do nothing for congestion if thats one of your symptoms. Personally, I just use the regular stuff because I don't get congested w/ my allergys- but if the OP does, then normal loratadine won't help too much

I think regular Claritin is working for me (generic Costco brand). I just take a pill regularly instead of being retro-active.
Before that, it took some heavy stuff like Alka Seltzer cold medicine or stuff that would knock me out.

I can't take anything that's 24-hour with D. It makes me all jumpy and won't let me sleep. I take my Zyrtec once a day, and a 12-hr Sudafed/generic every AM.

Anyone feel physically and mentally depressed when taking Claritin-D? I don't remember feeling this way the last few years when taking it.
