Damn car. Anyone have a similar problem with a Stealth/3000GT

Seems as though the the ignition sometimes locks and will not let the key turn. Usually I just have to turn the steering to the left to get it to go, but that does not seem to be working for my GF. She has been trying for the past 45 minutes and the key sill will not turn. Even worse now is that the steering wheel has locked.

Anyone have any ideas?

If your steering wheel been turned more than 45 degree, your steering wheel will get lock up. It's pretty normal to everybody.

I had the same exact problem with my GMC van. Found out it was not the lock cylinder, but the key itself. Seems like my original key had work down and would not work, but my spare, which was seldom used worked fine.

Could be that. Wonder if my sister has a spare key.

It happens sometimes in an old Camry my family used to have... I'd just have to wiggle the wheel so the key would turn... even if the wheel didn't really wiggle. I would also take out of Park and move back into Park just to make sure.

My DSM used to have that problem but a little WD40 in the lock cylinder & some metal polish and it was fine.

This WILL fix it:

Turn the key, and "wiggle" the steering wheel at the same time. The Steering Wheel will unlock, and so will the key. (When I say wiggle, move it left/right as much as you can, and it know it's barely at all, but do that. This is normal as far as cars that I've driven.)

Over two hours my sister and GF attempted to fix the car. I take my lunch break and get a ride over. Ten seconds later and I am driving off in my car.

Females should be banned from operating all motor vehicles. Yes I do believe that.

I'd second that and add voting to the list.

So what exactly did you do to get the car working, just wiggle the steering wheel and turn the key at the same time?

Pretty much. Moved it to the right a little and then forced it to the left and turned the key.

I think you typed that wrong. It should read "Males should be banned from operating all motor vehicles." 😉😛

There are some really good female drivers out there... it's just all about experience and confidence.
