First of all, asian lucky number is 8, not 6.
Second, in terms of rank, I'd say its korean/chinese then jap then rest (clearly stereoptyping here ;))
Third, my parents give me hugs :D
Fourth, i'm pretty sure only asians who do poorly get shit on by their parents (like me in highschool, for instance). There are exceptions, but in general, if you're doing fine life is good :)

Either this guy has the worst asian parents ever, or i'm incredibly lucky :p Where's my damn flamesuit.

*zip*

Edit: Okay, it's all fiction. I knew something wasn't right about this guy's life. LoL..

Read the first few sentences about the books thought on doctors and already called bullshit (mostly). Luckily it's fiction.

actually the rank of asian social status ladder is more like Japanese/Korean, then Chinese, then the rest.

I'd rank it as Japanese with Chinese being really close and then Koreans.

Japanese and Korean, debatable on who's top... but I would put Chinese 3rd.

I know an asian guy who had extremely liberal parents (although both were doctors, they encouraged their kids to explore the world and learn whatever they want and be whoever they wanted to be)... he married a white girl, became an underpaid teacher, and lives a fairly socially well adjusted life... couldn't be happier. He was a 1st generation American born Asian too, so i was pretty surprised by his parent's support (no beatings to report of ;))

A lot of the things he said are true, from my own experience with multiple Asian families.

Read about 20 pages in, pretty much all true to a T. 1st gen Chinese immigrant here and I can absolutely relate 100%.

Maybe I'm prejudiced, but after seeing the picture of the author in a half-zipped tracksuit with a popped collar, I couldn't continue.

this

The part about the doctors is false, but the asian behavior is remarkably close to life.

story is written pretty well, but its fiction.

my parents aren't near as strict as what he says. they never pressured to be doctor or lawyer. but my sister IS in cornell graduating with an engineering degree/pre-med then going into graduate dentistry program
