I just got ripped tonight.

I didn't know what's wrong with my car, it was running fine and it wouldn't start unless i have to jump start it. I thought it was either battery or alternator.

So anyway, i drove up to this Shell Gas Station

1320 Blackhorse Pike
Glendora NJ, 08029

and those assh told me that it would cost me $100 to replace the battery. I thought that's the problem and it's already late so i don't want to call anyone to pick me up cause my car has stop running. I bite the bullet and agree for them to get me a new batter for $100.

Anyway, after installing and charging me. They said let me check to see if it's your alternator. They all gather up and said, "yep, it's running straight from the battery, let me check out what's the price for that".

These assh0le gave me a quote of $419 to replace my alternator, and this is right after charging me $106 w/tax for my new battery. i was pissed and left. What do you guys think i should do.

They have my old battery.

Oh yea, non of them are older than f-king 24. I should of known better, god i'm so stupid

You can get a alternator from the yard for 20 bones more likely than not, and in most cars it's no more than a 5-10 minute job.

EDIT: And if you want a new one, Napa or whereever will probably stock it for under $100 depending on your car. Don't buy from Schucks though, theirs are crap.

Batteries cost like 50 bucks. It takes the knowhow of a dead newt to put one in.

Since you took the first bait, of course they are going to try and scam you more.

$400 plus for an alternator? It better be gold plated and come with a BJ.

Shop around if you can.

Man, that's really bad. A new battery costs anywhere from $30-50 and most places (even Walmart) will install it for free or for a few dollars. $100 is nuts. I'm not even gonna touch the alternator thing, that's insane.

Where I used to work (advance auto) batteries cost anywhere from $30 to $70 (not including Optimas) and the store policy was if you bought a battery there, installation was free (in most cars). Some cars require a ridiculous amount of work to change the battery, so we didn't do those.

Just an FYI, for next time :).

And $419 for an alternator is f'in ridiculous. Go to the Advance Auto or Autozone website and price out alternators for your car. You'll see what I mean. Even the most expensive alternators were under $200, and installation on most cars is like 2 bolts right on the top of the motor. It takes all of 10 minutes.

Yep. Or start it with the new $100 battery and turn off everything electric and drive it home (assuming it's close). Pick up an alternator from the local parts shop and do the replacement yourself. Not a hard job.

mechanic like you will get shot. I"m coming back for them.

That is the price you pay when your desparate I'm afraid.

I got a flat on my bike. I paid £18 ~ $25. I had no kit and walking all the way was not an option. I paid as I had no where else to go and needed the bike.
