The best combo in efficient gaming, IMHO, is a PS3 and PC. You get 98% of all the next gen goodness that way. I have both hooked up to my 60" SXRD XBR2 and am in gaming heaven...

- Sports like NFL, NBA and MLB? The PS3 gets the nod

- FPS games like Team Fortress 2, Left 4 Dead, Call of Duty 4/5, and Bioshock? My PC has it covered

- Fighting games like Tekken online and Soul Calibur? My PS3 takes care of business

- American RPGs like Fallout 3, Mass Effect, Guild Wars, WoW? Once again, the PC is awesome.

- Racing like WipeOut HD, Motorstorm, Pure, Gran Turismo and BurnOut? My PS3 is top tier in the genre

- Action titles? I can go PC for Gears of War and Diablo 3, or go PS3 for God of War 3, Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4, LittleBigPlanet and Ratchet & Clank series

- They even each have great low-budget offerings, like tons of classic stuff available on Steam or super-fun unique PSN releases like High Velocity Bowling and Super Stardust HD.

No, you can't have everything by having only the two platforms, but you have way too many quality games to choose from if you go this route to cover your bases (not to mention that 1080P, 7.1 uncompressed audio for Blu-ray movies is a nice bonus!).

Once you've played Team Fortress 2 and COD4 on a decent gaming PC, there is no going back to an analog controller...sorry.

PS3 is fantastic for racing games, RPGs, 3rd person action titles...but first person shooters... No.

Funny. I have no issues at all.

Same here except i Have a Xbox 360/PS3/PC. I really don't even game on my pc. I think i might get rid of it.

Wait, you actually choose to play games on your X360 that are available on the PC? Except in cases where it comes out first on console... why? I guess I'm specifically thinking of FPS titles. CoD4, Team Fortress 2, Bioshock, HL2 Ep. 2, etc. all more greatly benefit from richer textures, far better frame rates, and the infinitely better control scheme (mouse+KB).

Because I play my PC games on my 60" HDTV, there's no reason I would choose certain genres for my console of choice if the PC version is available.

Its hard to go back to the desk when you've been playing on a couch in front of a 1080p set with 5.1. Those consoles sneak up on ya when you let them in the house.

yeah...year in and year out I kept having these build a great HTPC dreams, waiting for the right components, waiting for the right components....then great receiver + PS3 comes along, for the price that a capable HTPC would cost (...and that HTPC still doesn't exist in my mind). pretty much sold the whole thing.

After I tried TVersity, I put my HTPC in the basement and basically use it as a file server for my 360 and PS3 (and I have a softmodded Xbox with XBMC that I'm going to use once I get a third viewing location set up in this house).

Yes i do. Mainly because i can actually play more then 45mins without getting bored and surfing the web instead. Only game i play on the PC is TF2 and Zombie Panic and i haven't played any of those in months. Sure mouse+KB is better but i have zero issues playing FPS games on a console.

Good for you.

Yeap, get me proper keyboard and mouse support for PS3 games and I'll be one step closer to the dark side too. I just can't do FPS and RTS games with a controller though.

Also, Securom 7 and the like are killing the PC experience for me. Both from a malware (I sold off Mass Effect for PC because of Securom 7 crashing my computer constantly) and consumer rights standpoint (last I checked my PS3 games have an unlimited number of installs).

Not the same. Cables running on the floor, and what do you rest the keyboard and mouse on? Coffee table? TV dinner tray? Its just awkward.

Opposite for me, I enjoy gaming on a keyboard/mouse and a controller takes that "IT" feeling away. Only game I play on consoles are RPGs or platformers. All FPS shall be on PC!

This thread reads like it was written by a sony shill 🙂

My PC is hooked up to a 30" monitor 3 feet from my face running 2560x1920 resolution wired into xbox 360 controllers, keyboard, and mouse. HDMI sound but usually routed through Sennheiser HD600 headphones through an amp. I have a mic but it's a desk mic so I don't have to use a shitty headset with low quality audio. The chair is an Aeron and I can sit in it for 8 hours straight without ever needing to shift positions. The PC is whisper quiet due to a high quality dvd drive and all custom replaced fans and heatsinks.

Meh. Anyone can play this game. If you enjoy something, enjoy it, but don't tear something else down, you just make yourself look foolish in the long run.

Well, I dont have my 40" TV sitting on my desk, nor do I have a 30" hooked up to my PC. I suppose if you go to the expense that you did PC gaming wouldnt be so bad. It seems absurd to think...anyways, whatever! 😛

Lol, now we're into home decorating tips? It's not hard to hide wires. My couch is against the wall. My mouse/kb wires run behind the couch and aren't seen except for the last two feet when I'm using them. I have them on a small 18" table that works perfectly for FPS games. I use that same table to attach my Logitech wheel for Gran Turismo Prologue. They slide to the corner when I'm done with no fuss.

It isn't "awkward" at all, especially since mouse and KB remains 100x superior in control to using a thumbstick for certain genres. That is why developers refuse to let thumbstick FPS players get mangled by mouse+KB players in any given multi-platform game.

If you're not leaning back in the couch I dont see the reason for sitting there. Believe me, I've tried various things, even taking apart a shelf and using that to sit the kb+m on. It worked for the most part, but then the wires were a mess, especially if someone was over they'd trip over it and pull it out. I suppose you could go wireless, but then theres the battery hassle, and movement doesnt feel the same. And I dont have the biggest living room, but it would take at least a 20ft usb cable to run along the sides to my couch. Then to powered hub. Then the shelve. Too ghetto. I just rarely play FPSs these days. I dont think there has been anything good since COD4 anyways.

TF2 is beyond amazing.

20 feet of cabling is no problem in order to keep the wires hidden. There is NO tripping hazard or unsightly problem if you plan properly. Putting the small table aside for me is as simple as sliding it four feet to my right. Everyone's TV room is different I suppose, but for my setup you describe a problem that literally does not exist.

Oh, and why PC game from my couch? To play on a 1080P 60" HDTV with 5.1 audio!

I like the couch because I can sit back. I think most people do, which makes the console more appealing, especially in the living room, even if it means giving up keyboard and mouse. Playing UT3 on PS3 with kb+m using the shelf worked fine because I could lean back comfortably. But the wires made it a short lived experiment. Maybe I'm just getting old, but leaning forward for hours on end isnt actually comfortable, especially if you sit at a desk for 8-10 hours a day for work.

If I'm playing an action/shooter game on the PS3, especially if playing multiplayer, I cannot possibly sit back in pure comfort, because I immediately lose quick reflexes. I always kind of sit forward, and plus with the room setup, sitting back would place me another foot or two away from my 32" LCD, and with already sitting about 6-7' away, it makes the image seem even small, which also has the unwelcome effect of lowering my reaction times.

meh. I love and prefer KB&M, but I've had consoles my whole life and have just grown used to console controls as well. I enjoy console-exclusive games, and the PS3 has a lot of exclusives, so I kind of just force myself to adjust to the controls, and do pretty decent when competing online. The fact that everyone else is using the controller as well allows me to accept defeat in my desire to use a KB&M.
Any shooter that comes out on on consoles, but is also available for PC, I get the PC version for that very reason. But I'm not gonna miss out on console-exclusive games. 😉

And personally, I've grown extremely fond of the controls for Resistance 2, mainly because they are customizable and I have them exactly as I prefer.
Some games like SOCOM: Confrontation have less customizable controls, and I cannot get a control scheme that I feel real comfortable with, but I make do. I just can't play the run-and-gun style of respawn-enabled matches, where it just is crazy. When playing slower games, I can do better. But then again, I don't care much, because I really only got SOCOM for the PS3 headset, as it was a good deal to pick up another game for $10 more than the headset alone.
