I had a brother Hl-1440 laser printer.. Picked it up for like $100 a while ago.. Nice printer that worked well for a while but now I have a "FUSER ERROR" message.. Called support- I'm out of warranty and it'll cost me a bundle to get fixed.. Anyways, I'm in 3 writing courses this semester and part of what I have to do is print out copies of my assignments for every student in my class.. So that's about 900 pages a week... So I need a low cost laser that doesn't cost a fortune to maintain... Refillable cartridges woudl be nice too.. Any suggestions? The brother fit the bill until I realized that the drums cost $140 (so I don't want to replace my broken one with another brother)...

I just picked up the Samsung ML-1710 for $80 after rebate at Office Depot. Cartridges are around $70 and last around 3000 pages (over 4000 if you use the toner-saving mode). I've had no problems yet, but I don't do as much printing as you do.

Those fusers are cheap. Pick one up on Egay, and you'll be all set.
