Dammit! My furnace is dead....AGAIN. <<update: a freaking mouse chewed a wire>>

*sigh* At least I'm not sick this time, but it's still freaking cold in here.

The only upshot is that this should be a warranty fix since these yoyos were just here a week ago and do guarantee their work.

Yes, I'd like a cookie. Preferably hot from the oven so I can defrost my hands.

Update: turns out a mouse or rat had chewed through a wire. Doubtless, this critter was drawn to the area by the squalor next door that my neighbor calls "home".

Pics of squalor: Crap, crap, crap, and still more crap.

Code enforcement has been notified and will hopefully compel her to clean all that garbage up.

that sucks. i hate being cold.

at first i thought the title said "dammit! my fiance is dead.. again" 😛

Huh. Learn something new every day.
We hit something like 23F last night. That's pretty cold if your furnace decides to take a dump.

sorry to hear. do you know if the stuff those guys fixed last time is to blame or if it's something new?

keep the little girl bundled up and maybe it's time to consider a micro-fiber fleece thong instead of that spandex one you're always parading around in.

Yes it is. I just never thought the south got that cold. Sure, they'd have snow once a decade, but nothing that lasted long. Nothing like a little knowledge.

At this point, I don't know what's up. Grace is in daycare until 4pm-ish, so she's fine for the time being. I'm just sitting here freezing my ass off waiting for the repair dudes to show up.

ouch, that sucks.. luckily i haven't had to go without a furnace, but we have a nice wood burning fireplace if the need ever arises 🙂

What is it doing?
Not coming on at all?
Blower runs all the time?

If its over 15 years old .....
Consider replacement.

Normal lows for this time of the year are in the 30's (chart) but it usually warms up to reasonable temps during the day. We'll typically get one or two dustings of snow per year and maybe one that actually sticks every few years. Last really big snowstorm was March of 1993; we got almost a foot overnight and it shut the city down for several days.

Fortunately, I lived within walking distance of a local bar that still had power. 😀

It's only a few years old and it's not coming on at all. They replaced the vacuum switch last week and I'm wondering if it wasn't a bad part by chance.

OR the vacuum switch was merely a SYMPTOM of a larger problem (I.E. the real problem caused the original switch to blow)

I'm crossing my fingers that's not the case. 🙁

Make them check the ground on the unit.
Most sensors are single ended conections.
The ground provides a return path.

A bad ground can cause all kinds of funny conrtol problems.....

I'm going to heat myself up in the oven if it gets any colder in here.

OMFG. A mouse or rat chewed through a wire and that's what nuked the furnace. I know exactly where the little f*cker came from too; our neighbor's pit she calls a house. There is absolutely no food, trash or anything else in our house of interest to a rodent, yet our neighbor has piles of trash and random crap absolutely everywhere.

Code Enforcement is getting a phone call right now. :|

Here we go...how to attract rodents to your home 101; fill the yard up with random trash, scrap building materials, and dog crap.

Crap, crap, crap, and still more crap.

It's extra-super in the summer when the stench of dog sh*t is so strong I can smell it on my back porch. :|
