Dammit, my 6 month old processors are obsolete!

Currently running a Duron@850 and a Celeron@850. Both are near the low end of the current processors! Time to upgrade. Boy, this high turnover in machines is bothersome.

I hear ya but i kinda like it.I talked to a friend of mine who i hadnt seen in a long time.He is still running a Cyrix 266@300 with a voodoo2 and 64 megs of ram.He says he can play anything. He must be playing old ass games at 640x480 or somthing.I should tell him to try and run Giants on that old rig.

Ever heard of Moore's Law? :)

And while those may be near the low end of the scale of what you can go out and easily buy, and what's still being produced by the manufacturers, you can run absolutely any app on them. Hell, on this old PII system (see rig profile below) I can still run almost anything at all decently.

If your processors still run your programs at decent speed, then they are not obsolete. My celeron 500 is still fast enough for most of my stuff. The reason I just got a 1GHz Tbird is to crack more rc5 and get a little more zip in Photoshop.

It also depends on how patient you are. :)

Or as far as frame rate goes, how "picky" you are.

My Athlon 650 is plenty fast, but I ordered a Duron tested to 1gig anyway, the price was cheap.

I upgraded from an Athlon 500 @ 750 to a T-bird because I was using the solderless cache kit on my GFD, and I couldn't keep the leads hot glued. I was moving around a bit and the combo of heat and vibration would shake them too much. Although the GFDs were fun to play with--I'm glad to be back to using software.

My Athlon classic 650 still feels plenty fast for the apps I throw at it :D .. stilll I'm going for a classic 1000 if I'm able to find one (for a reasonable price ofcourse)

Stick with what you have if it gets the job done. Besides, who really needs 1GHz+ anyway?

I'm with the "un-OC'ed" 1 GHz club. :)

I don't think that there are many members in my club. At least from this forum. hehe

Nope I'm on a KX133 board (will be soon actually) so no Tbird for me. A 4th dimm and 133MHz DIMM clock means more to me than getting a Tbird. So I'm sticking with the classic :)
