Dammit, I hate when people do this

I do flash web ads for a number of clients.
I'm doing a campaign for a company at the moment, it's about 15 ads for different sites.
They are all sized differently.
So they send me the sizes, one of them seems wrong, I've done ads before on that site and the size seems wrong for their site. They normally display 3 different size ads, and this one was not one of them. So I asked them to confirm the size. They did. I created the ad at that size. Now I get an email saying they gave me the wrong size. I told them I'll have to charge them another design fee. I noramlly wouldn't do that, but flash work is very time consuming. I spent good time on that ad. Now I'm the bad guy. :|

For some odd reason it never fails - clients almost never really know what they want. *shakes head*

And this is after they confirmed it at the original size. :|:|

You already confirmed the size and they were wrong, why should you pay for it? If they bicker over sh!t like that, I'd rather not have them as a client.

I would, I really would. But this same client did the exact same thing to me last campaign and I did them another one for free, though I probably shouldn't have. This stuff takes valuable time.

True.
They haven't responded yet.
I'm curious what the reaction will be.

they have no right to think you are the bad guy. You were nice about it and asked for confirmation, just because they are idiots, thats not your problem. Time = money.

why are you the bad guy?

they angry at you?

why do you even feel the slightest bit upset? Just charge them for another one and make more money?

Here are the emails.

Me: The last ad we did for that site was 395x80.
Can you confirm this new size (385x80)?

Them: 395x80 is the correct size.

Them (much later): Actually we're going with 120w x 90h for that site.

Me: I already created it at the other size which you confirmed earlier.
I will have to charge you another design charge for this new size.
Flash ads are very time-consuming to create.

Still haven't heard back.

You're right, but I'll wait to see their reaction first.

Depends on how much money they bring in.

On a profit loser, this is where you part ways. On someone that basically accounts for a large stake of your revenue; you toss a loss in here and there.

Obviously if the client knew WTF they were doing they wouldn't need a pro.

They are not a big client.
They call me every now and then when they run ad campaigns.
It's nice money, but they are not one of my main clients.

And by doing that the first time, you set the precedent for this happening. They will expect the same exact treatment.

Like has been said time and time again, give away something free and whatever it was is not seen as worth much.....so they view your correction of their mistake as being not worth much, since obviously if it was.....you'd have charged for it the first time you corrected their mistake.

And they will not get it. Once is enough.

flash ads FTL
but i would think it pays well

so if anybody could afford to place flash ads, they can afford to pay for their mistakes too

I have no doubt they can afford it, that's not the issue.
I'm very curious to see their reaction.

If they expect you to provide them a second ad for free after their own mistake, and are angry when you decline, odds are you don't want them as a client anyway.
