Forgot exactly how it happened but I jammed my pinky pretty bad while playing basketball. Saw it was crooked once I looked down and pretty easily popped it back into place with little pain. It's been 3 hours now, the dispensory nurse where I work told me it should be fine unless the swelling or pain gets worse, which it hasn't. Right now I have full normal range of motion with it and after 2 icing sessions it's feeling less tight/sore, only see a little black and blue where it bends above the knuckle. Looks like this was a minor dislocation but since it's my right hand (and im a righty) I want to be extra sure about treatment since I didn't show it to my normal doctor or get x-rays on it yet.

Just wondering if this happened to anyone else and if so what did you do to help it heal? I buddy-taped it to my ring finger for now to stabilize it and plan to soak in epsom salt when I get home, any other tips?

Broke mine playing vball back in highschool. Never got it set/looked at, now it looks a little fucked up, but not terrible. Ended up splinting it for a week or so until the gym teachers said I couldn't have the splint on during class without a Dr. note. By then it didn't hurt so much, so I just taped it to my ring finger for a week or so and it's been fine.

tried to bare-hand catch a softball while warming up for a slow-pitch game, knocked my ring fingers last joint out of place. had a buddy put it back in place, then taped it to the middle finger and didnt use to much finger action when throwing. took the tape off when the game was over, never iced or soaked. it was good within a few weeks.

I've dislocated most of my fingers. Pop 'em back in and buddy tape 'em until they stop hurting.

I hear that there are situations where you should do more, but I'm too lazy to go to a doctor to check.

I'm still fighting a jam on my right ring finger I injured almost 6 weeks ago. My knuckle is still swollen and I still don't have range of motion and full strength. Did that playing basketball too. These things just don't heal quickly and they are very easy to reinjure.

My three year old brought me to tears in pain a few weeks ago. She was sitting on the couch next to me and instead of getting down from the couch she stood up and jumped. And used that jammed finger as a launch pad. 30 pounds of leaping toddler pressing down on an already blown up knuckle didn't feel too swell. Good times were not had.

I've broken, smashed, and/or dislocated every finger on both hands at least once... I played "competitive volleyball" while I was in jail. Front line, and had my pinky dislocated and stuffed more than half-way down my hand. That hurt a bit...but not as bad as when the jailhouse doctor pulled it back into place. No x-rays, no pain meds...just "look over there for a minute...YANK...there, that ought to do it." I've had a finger or two dislocated and pointing in the wrong direction...some of them don't bend quite right anymore...and the arthritis sucks.

For some reason, I can't quite figure out why my typing speed is so crappy...:p

Just to update.. I saw a specialist for my finger last week even after the nurse and my doctor kept saying it will be fine and that wouldn't really be necessary, etc. Well, it's crooked at the joint by about 25 degrees so *I* considered it necessary and decided to eat my ridiculous specialist co-pay to see one, and it's good I didn't wait much longer because I'm just within the window for wearing an uncomfertable extension splint to straighten it out. I started my PT on it today and should be able to rehab it fully with treatment. So, don't do what I did and just settle for hearing what you want to hear and leaving it at that, be pro-active early on.

Rehab and PT for a pinky? Dear lord. I can't tell you how many broken fingers etc from BBall I have had.

I'm sitting on 2 nagging BBall injuries that occured 2 weeks apart. 1st is my left index finger. Literally the FIRST pass of the game (a complete ROCKET) destroued my finger. Was swollen and black blue within a min. I played through. I still can only bend it about half way on the 1st knuckle but if I bump it and it gets "forced".... ugh the pain is something to behold. This is two months now.

The 2nd injury is my knee. Never had an knee injury. Planted foot on a fast break, bottom of my leg went one way, rest of body went the other, knee got confused and fell apart. Didn't hear any "pops" or "cracks" so I dont think anything tore. I have range of motion back, but it gets pretty stiff and painful if twisted at all. I did throw out some sweet profanity though while rolling/laying on the floor of the Mormon gym :)

Yep, had the same thing happen playing a game of touch football when some douchebag didn't understand the concept of TOUCH football and full on tackled me. I put out my hand out and just landed on it wrong and my pinky was basically jutting out 90 degrees to the side of my hand. Just popped it back in and iced it and it was alright. A little sore for a couple weeks but nothing too bad.

lol i know it isn't the manliest thing to do but the crookedness really was bothering me with everyday stuff. This year was been my worst ever for bball injuries, but yeah this was probably the nastiest of my 2 big ones (sprained my ankle real bad too) so I can't complain too much, plus I also play for at least an hour almost every weekday for the past 2+ years so by law of averages I'm not doing too bad. But dude, see a specialist about the finger! You're on the edge of the treatment window at 2 months, just suck it up and get it looked at. lol @ the Mormon gym cursing.
