I just called Dell too. I bought something yesterday and was wondering if I could apply the $40 coupon that came out today.

I was connectd to someone in India I believe. I really don't care where they are from, but it would be a lot easier if we understood each other.

They also seem to have problems with there "systems" when I call. You sell computers for christ sake...and you are having problems?:|

Anyways, does anyone know if Dell will adjust a bill for something like this?

u can always cancel and reorder but YES, they will usually do the price adjustment. Call the sales person assigned to
your sale. Those are always in the US. They don't screw u until the sale is made. :)

I work for a compnay that has Dell machinery and they have finally shipped their CSRs over to India for us also. I have called Dell FOUR TIMES for the same goddamned package and every time i talk to someone in India who says "Hello, my name is apudubalilili but you may call me Bob" and every time i talk to them they say my package is set to be picked up via Airborne the next day. Airborne comes and goes each day and never picks up the package. I call Dell to ask why and they say something to the effect of "Sorry, the last guy forgot to process your request, oops." It is driving me mad. The PCs we have gold support on have American tech support and everythin goes infinitely smoother. In fact, I asked them to have the package picke dup, but they could not. The CSR then began joking with me about the CSRs in India.

BTW, the package is an RMA that Dell forgot to put a packing slip/RMA return airbill in.

Oh, foreign people are stealing US jobs? Well then, I guess you should get an education so they can't take the minimum wage jobs away... or better yet, realize that just because people are foreign, doesn't make them stupid. They probably know more about computers than you do... otherwise you wouldn't have had to call them.

Racist loser.

You can blow me until the end of time. By the way your comments do nothing but hurt yourself. Also I know my grammar sucks that why I am a Engineer.

Dell has to "cut the fat" somewhere and they don't make money buy paying their tech support guys $20 an hour.

Everybody wants a screaming deal, but that comes at a price.

WHY am I do I buy from these guys. STEALING US JOBS!!!!

:|

It's funny though. Us American people want cheap computers and support, yet we demand to have high wages and jobs from companies such as Dell. I just don't get it. How can you expect Dell to pay high wages while meeting the demand of cheap computers?

You're right. We should be happy that their tech support sucks.

well, you get what you pay for.

They would probably be able to pay their tech support $20 an hour and keep the jobs in the USA, BUT, there are too many idiots calling tech support for stupid stuff.

I propose a new model for tech support: An online quiz... if you get the answers correct, you get free tech support... If you answer wrong... you pay $20 an hour. Here's the quiz.

1. The troubleshooting guide is located on which pages of your user's manual?
2. Your problem relates to which component(s)?
3. What page(s) are listed in the index of your user's manual for your answer to #2.

I am an Indian. I live in India. I was born here.

I got a Dell Latitude from US.
When i called tech support in India, after 15 minutes of waiting I got hold of some guy named "Glen" (Yeah Right!).

The point is, this guy was a moron.... and there was no communication gap here. So was the next one, and the next one. After 35 minutes ... i hung up and hit the forums...

My point: Dell is getting cheap incompetent help, even in a low labour cost country like India!!
Remember, there are morons everywhere... Dell just seems to be hiring the Indian morons!! :p

Man... this is a very clever idea, in general. Of course, if they let you work from home, it never actually happens.

I had to call dell a few weeks ago to ask if I there was a way to disable my laptop touchpad. Instead the guy showed me how to use the control panel. Then when I told him 3 times this is not what I asked he told me there was no way to disable the touchpad. I demanded a supervisor and he told me there was. Time on call 1 hour.

I called customer service recently on the 400sc deal most of us got in on. I wanted to return a part for a credit. The guy in customer service told me I MUST speak to technical support to get money back on a part and transferred me. The guy at tech was like WTF? Which is what I said, but I thought I would play the game anyway. I had to call back in later. Amazingly I got someone that was in the US and the problem was resolved in 5 minutes. This took 2 calls and 30 minutes total when it could have taken 5 minutes.

Dell and hopefully others will realise the savings of paying some idiot that has no idea about computers or customer service to answer our calls will end up costing them money.

a) You have to be on the phone longer because they know less and/or make multiple telephone calls to resolve the issue. Since it is a 1-800 number they are footing the bill.
b) It was not too long ago Dell was praised for having excellent support. They are going to lose that footing with consumers. Eventually a company that does not outsource overseas will end up having that edge when all the systems seem homegenous and priced about the same.
