Sent in my car payment by mail as usual. Over a week later I called to confirm that they got it, and they hadn't. Wishing to avoid late fees, I paid with a check by phone, and since I dont want to make 2 payments this month, I called my bank to stop payment on the check I sent in the mail. They said they need 24 hours notice to do that. Of course, the check in the mail arrived later that very day and the bank that has my car loan immediately put it through. I called them and they said there's no way they can stop it once they processed it, I would have to call my bank. They said since it was processed within the 24 hours they couldn't sdtop it, I would have to dispute it. Now I'm on hold with the dispute dept. for 20 minutes. Damn it. :|

I use electronic funds transfers for all my payments, to avoid just this kind of problem.

Yeap, the only thing i pay by check is the rent, since it's to a private party.
