Damaged windows disk...cant install

Honest question, I purchased XP MCE a year or so back just as vista came out. Anywho I got like 5 computers all roaming around and somewhere along the lines I had to format the computer that I had it installed on. (I'm always replacing selling and changing computers around and even the normal ones get all fubar when them hippies download viruses and crap)

Well long story short I need the OS again and went to install it but I get all kinds of errors and such, tried the disk on several machines and it just don't work. I can see that the disk is physically damaged so it looks like I'm screwed. I searched all over the web and cant find any friggen place to get a new disk. I have the COA and everything, I'm not trying to get an illegal copy or anything...I just want a disk that works so I can install the dang thing. Is it O.K. to have someone make a copy of their disk (is that possible?) I would be willing to pay like 10-15$ or something. Though Id feel more comfortable buying a legitimate disk, I cant seem to find one anywhere (MS wants 30$ just to ask a dang question!). Its just stupid that you cant get a new disk anywhere...I refuse to buy a new copy. I know I'm a retard and its my fault for farkin up the disk but c'mon! Stuff happens, what if it wasn't even your fault (bad from the start)...your just screwed?

Actually I have two CDs, one labeled as disc2 thats all golden shiny with the microsoft xp stuff printed all over and another disk thats just plain silver that says microsoft windows xp media center edition 2005. The one I can see thats really damaged is the golden one that says disc2. But I cant seem to get the silver disk to do anything either. Is it possible I'm missing a disc1? I honestly don't remember.

Id be willing to post pics if anyone questions my honesty.

I personally take the stance that it's the COA you really buy, and not the 1s and 0s. I act accordingly, and get the media through any means necessary if I don't have a decent disc to use.

I feel the same way, I paid for the right to use the software...in the odd event that my only means of using the software is rendered useless I shouldnt be screwed out of the rights I paid for. And thats why Im asking, what other means do I have of getting the software? Im not gonna go steal a disk or anything...but if somebody can make a copy of the disk or if I can somehow download it somewhere and make my own CDs Id really like to know. And again, I think up to 15$ would be a reasonable payment if someone could get me a functioning set of disks.

I dont think 30$ is fair, but I may give MS a call and see what they say. Thanks for posting that link...I honestly couldnt find anything worth crap on their website.

Oh and this is a set of retail disks or whatnot, not dhell or anything. I purchased the OS along with hardware a while back from newegg. In all the years Ive played with computers Ive never had a problem so retardedly simple that I just couldnt fix. Ive always taken care of my stuff, but this time I somehow screwed it up. Its rather fustrating.

My Windows XP OEM disc was scratched and could not be read without serious errors. A retail business close by deals in used CDs and has a resurfacing machine. I paid $3 to have my install disc resurfaced. All of the scratches were removed and the problem was solved.
